- Rob M1 contributionNice but pricy. The facilities are top notch and beautiful. However, all the extraneous charges are enough to ruin your stay, including a daily resort charge of $50 which is in addition to your room and an astonishing $65/per day valet parking fee which doesn't include tip. Add to that Hawaii's 19% taxes.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 7 May 2024
- Nisha P30 contributionsNice luau but could use some improvementWhile the luau was overall good, I was expecting a bit more. Especially from the fire part. I had been debating booking OLL and went with this because thought the kids would enjoy the fire show. It was nice but short to meet my expectations. This luau has all private tables so you just sit with your group, which is nice. Our server was excellent - Desiree was her name. Part of our group was vegetarian, which they accommodated for, however the vegetarians said the food was not good and bland. The meat portion consisted of chicken, steak, fish and pulled pork. The pulled pork was by far the best. Chicken was decent. Steak was chewy and fish was bland. Beautiful sunset views from the location. Overall gave this 3-star because parts of it were nice, but could have been better given this is supposed to be a 5-star location.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 July 2024
- Risa HReisterstown, Maryland111 contributionsA great first luau experienceWe were staying next door so easy walk to the luau. Beautiful ground and setting right on the beach. The food was really good and plentiful. The pork and poke were awesome. We liked that the show was during dinner. Nice open bar. A bit pricey but overall a good experience.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 July 2024

It was a rain out for us. We had wet tables, ponchos, chairs, and food. The staff did the best they could, but with a rain we should have a refund or a rain date. The photogher was no where to be found, so we had someone do a family picture for us. We were rushed with the food, so the show could start, and our luau was 30 minutes shorter. For over 1700 dollars for a family of 6, we did not get to eat some of the selections, or have anytime to just enjoy the food. We have done this luau before and it was not this bad, but we will not go back again.

Had a great time at the Grand Wailea Luau. Great location and you can see a sunset along witha show. Great Value in terms of getting drinks from the two bars (Try the Lava Flow or the Maui Sky) Food was fantasic and huge portions. Great poke, Great proteins, great sides. Leave room for proteins and main course.
One of the coolest things was the performer did a variety things with the audience before the show. They were showing how to play lawn games, ,ukuele, henna tattoos and then they performed great.
I would avoid the premier seating and just arrive at 4 PMET to get a table for regular seating

This was a big disappointment for us. We were hoping it would be a marquee event of our trip. We originally intended to stay at the grand Wailea but when they doubled the price at the hotel for 2 rooms for our family of 4 after Covid (we had this trip booked before Covid at half the price) we decided to rent a condo elsewhere. Smart move as Hawaii is still out of control with mask requirements social distancing. I don’t mind spending money on good experiences but at $250 a person I expected a much higher quality of food. For lack of a more technical term the food sucked. The bar offering was very limited for this price point. I would expect to order whatever I would like. Even if you have to charge me an up charge for for a scotch that I like that is sold at the bar 100 yards away I would be OK with that. They wouldn’t do it that alone pissed me off. The show was excellent but the entire experience is very “bougie” and unauthentic. I think we would’ve been much better off at a cheaper luau in town that may have been more representative of how the locals really do it. To top off the cheesiness, the extra charge for pictures that the photographer takes at sunset. At $250 a person you can throw in a picture. A Tourist trap and I fell into it I usually can avoid this.

Wow what can I say other than what a big disappointment here. No need to show up until 5:30pm next the show doesn’t start till 6pm and it ends at 8pm. And no there isn’t 2 hours of show. It’s 1.5 hours of music and maybe 30 min of show. Honestly don’t waste your money here a cheaper luau will be much better more authentic with lots more show. I kept wandering off listening to the other luau where it sounded like everyone was getting their money’s worth. The actors our server and our food was delicious, great! But my problem is it’s not worth the cost. The show was ok I expected so much more. If you’ve been to other luau you know what to expect and this luau did not. My ticket said arrive at 4:30? For what to stand in line until 5:30. It also said show ends at 8:30pm? It did NOT! the so called show put on by this Grand Wailea hotel ended at 8pm! My point hey if you wanna throw your money away go ahead! There’s much better luaus in Maui. They also didn’t make sure to tell everyone to take a picture because they didn’t tell us. Try the Sheraton luau or the one down the street from the so called grand wailea they’re much better. I don’t blame the actors or our server I blame the staff that want to overcharge the crap out of you for half the show. The actors and servers are just trying to make a living. Stay away maybe from this corporate luau.

My wife and I brought our adult children (and a spouse) to Maui for a family vacation. (I selected "Family teens" as the 'visit type' only because "Adult Family" isn't an option.)
We scheduled a lot of activities including Whale watching (Pac Whale), helicopter tour (Air Maui) and a snorkeling trip (Calypso). On our last evening before flying home we scheduled a Luau at the Grand Wailea. We all agreed it was one of the highlights of the trip. The show was amazing and the food was truly top notch. We bought vouchers through Costco.com and saved about $30.00 per ticket for the regular seating. We arrived early at the resort to reserve the best (non-premium) seating available. The extra time gave us an opportunity to walk around the amazing grounds and had a drink in their outdoor bar. Again, I absolutely recommend it.

A great way to kickoff our vacation, with a great show, excellent food, and a great location. Enjoy your favorite cocktails or libations while listening to the soothing music and watching the sunset. Bring an appetite as the servings are sizable, but the food is fresh and well prepared. The MC knows how to get the audience engaged and the talented performers put on a great show. Perhaps one of the pricier Luaus but, in my opinion, worth it.

To say this was a disappointment would be an understatement. I bought this for my significant other for Christmas for his first time to Maui - thinking it was the one I went to in 2019 that was absolutely incredible & did a phenomenal job explaining the history of the islands, the people and the show was spectacular. I was excited to show him “the best luau on Maui”. Boy, was I disappointed. He didn’t know any better since he had never been, and convinced me to stay after I wanted to leave early, like many others did. The dancers were hardly on stage at all, maybe 20% of the time & hardy talked about the history of the islands, they talked more about fashion of what the hula dancers wore. So I essentially paid (WAY too much) for an “okay” meal, and some electronic sounding music. The guide for the evening seemed very disingenuous.
Not to mention they messed up and called the morning of the luau to try to reschedule our reservation because they didn't transfer our reservation over to the new location when this got moved from the original location (I wish I would have just asked for a refund, but I didn’t know what I do now at that point). And it seemed like they did everything to screw us, everyone else got the “lei’s” except our table, they sat us in the 3rd row, right behind a whole row of screaming, loud, running around children which again took away from the experience. All in all, it was the worst luau I’ve been to on Maui, and I’ve been to many. Will definitely not go back, and will not recommend to anyone.

Little did I know how bad this tourist trap would be. For over $1000, my family of four was treated to inedible food, constant upcharges, and a PA system that kept popping and going out. The luau is on the grounds of the Grand Wailea and they should be embarrassed to offer it. When we arrived, check in was totally disorganized. Limited signage and no staff to direct. Eventually an employee told us we had to to go to the lobby to check in. The Luau is by the beach path and the lobby is a solid 10 min walk uphill...but what choice did I have. So I left my family in line and went up to the lobby. When I arrived they said I could check in at the door. Grrr. Once inside, there are games and local artisans to shop, which is nice. They also take a family picture. Then the Luau starts....again the audio kept going out and the speaker system was popping and echoing. The dancers were great but the host was struggling with the audio issues. The food was served family style at your table but it was really really bad. Overcooked and lukewarm. A hotel this big should know how to do catering. Then the photo people came around to uncharge you for a picture taken at entry (not uncommon but again the Luaua was over $1000) After dinner, the waiters stood around hovering for tips, but there was no guidance if it was included since the Luau is prepay. We tipped because it wasn't their fault, but for this price, it should have been included and made clear. In sum, not worth the time or money.

Great views, awesome food and incredible show at the Luau. I wish it went on longer! We took a family photo at sunset with their onsite photographer & it was great as well. They also had local artisans & you could buy items at reasonable prices. All tables had a pretty good view & each family has their own table. It was expensive, but worth it!

It was an ok show, but IMO definitely not worth $225 usd per adult.l which was very surprising given the beautiful resort it is held at. Beautiful beach view from tables. There are no flower leis given, only cheap shell leis are given. No table service for drinks, only dinner. The drinks were meh, no little extra garnishes or anything like that which you will find at other Luaus. The poke salad was excellent, but rest of the food was dry and cold, the desert was dry and flavourless. Our server was great and friendly. The show was entertaining, but again, not worth the amount you pay. Awesome fire show at end. Very small stage, poor sound quality. The Old Lahaina Luau is cheaper and miles better than this one.

Can someone with a costco membership purchase the voucher at the discounted price for someone (like myself) without a membership?
Written 4 June 2019
Thank you for the question! Costco members can purchase tickets for themselves any any number
Of guests( even if they are not Costco).
Written 6 June 2019
As I recall, the main reason for getting in a line is for them to take your photo, and of course, sell you a picture. After taking the photo they escorted us to our table.

Aloha!
Thank you for the question. We have the lines to help organize the guests through the check in point where they are then routed to take a quick picture with our staff in costume as many guests love those photos for Christmas and Holiday cards! After that point we then have staff ready to help seat all guests and point them to their tables. Hope this helps. If you have any further questions feel free to contact me.

Hello. Just wondering if you can buy the VIP tickets at Costco? OR can you upgrade?
Thanks, th
Written 25 March 2019
Aloha! Yes to both! We also do have a direct booking special this month when you book by phone or on our website with code direct20 to receive 20% off your entire reservation. This special does not apply to booking with outside vendors such as Costco.
Written 27 March 2019
Do they invite children up on the stage to try the hula? If not buying premium tickets, is there an option still to get a fresh flower lei and if so for what price?
Written 9 February 2019
Aloha!
Thank you for inquiring with The Grand Luau at Honua'ula. The fresh flower leis that are sold separately are based on flower prices that day. They range from $10-$30.00 depending on the kind of flower etc.
All guests who purchase premium seating receive a fresh orchid Lei.
Hope to see you soon!
Written 9 February 2019
If I purchase the premium seats do I need to get there as early?
Written 10 October 2018
If you need to upgrade, go early as there are limited premium seats. It is $20 more but I think it was worth it. You can’t get in till 5pm and the line is long but you only get your drinks after you are in. So line up by 4:45 and you should be fine.

Hi James, read your reviews and thank you for sharing. we travelling in Maui In a couple weeks, what's the deal at Costco?
Written 24 May 2018
I looked on Costco, before booking it directly, and the Costco ones don't specify if they're for premium seating. I figured it was safe to assume they weren't, and I specifically wanted to have that. I also read complaints, on the Costco website, that people who booked through Costco had a bad experience because they were treated differently.

What kind of prices are we looking at for our family to attend a luau?
Written 22 April 2018
There are two levels of pricing, Premium and Standard. The Premium tickets are closer to the stage and tend to be more towards the middle. My guess is first two rows of tables are Premium. Premium also has assigned tables so you don’t need to get in line early to then get assigned a table on what seems to be first come / first seat basis. The ticket process for Standard is a bit confusing and I think people tend to start lining up around 4PM to get their table assignment and then come back later when the Luau opens. The food and stuff is the same for everyone.
Premium seating is $140 / adult and $100 / child — lower if under 5.
Standard seating is $100 / adult and $75 / child — free if under 5.
Here’s the interesting thing. If you’re Premium they give everyone in your group a free lei which runs around $10(?) if you need to purchase one as a Standard.
