Like I said it is a long drive on some VERY bad roads to get there but worth the trip. There is an "Honesty Box" at the gate to pay your entrance fee. Worth the $5! Good little hike and climbing back into the valleys of spires it can be a little bit challenging at times. Seems to just go... More

Clay cliffs are worth a visit as they are very beautiful with views of the mountains and valley as you walk along, just note that you have to pay $5 per carload. A single person might feel this is a bit steep, but at $2.50 or less for 2+, it's worth it.

The journey to the cliffs are dirt roads, a $5.00 (Car) / $10.00(Truck) honesty box and a gate but the destination is worth the journey, once you come around the corner and see them it makes it all worth it. We arrived with an army of others but the sights and the pull of the cliffs ushered us forward and... More

Don't just drive past them. They are amazing. My elderly mother didn't walk right in, but she spent the time taking amazing photos. We walked right in. I would recommend appropriate footwear (not thongs/jandels/flip flops). We wore the wrong shoes, but still made it inside and the walk is well worth it, to be surrounded by these amazing natural wonders.

First of all before I start make sure your car is capable. It is a rumble track road so it is a very bumpy road i had a bit of aniexty before we started and when we were driving but we're from Christchurch and used to rough roads...In saying that though this was pretty crazy. The rough road is worth it... Daunting washboard of a road to get there, but worth persisting. Just don't try to climb up the left side unless you're very good at making you way down on an uncertain surface. Excellent photo ops from the bottom.

It's a rough bumpy drive about 15 -20 mins from town, but well worth it - suggest you go around dusk as the light is amazing.

On the road from Twizel to Oamaru we took the short d-tour to these highly unuasual rock formations. A short trip, but absolute worth it. Could be slippery when rainy.

The Clay Cliffs or Paritea (Maori for white or light coloured cliff) are huge sharp pinnacles made up of clay and small rocks. While walking on these cliffs, we got the impression of being in a sand castle. Clay Cliffs are 10 km west of Omarama (the road is unsealed for 5 km). The cliffs are located in a private... More
