Very old cemetery with alot of history, especially Civil War. Be warned, do not drive into the cemetery, park outside the gate and walk through. It is a beautiful cemetery with plots on different levels, which makes driving very hard. Go to the Civil War Soldiers section. It is so sad to see so many graves and realize that's only... More

If you are in Macon doing Allman Brothers sightseeing, definitely go to the cemetery. Get a map at The Big House; you will definitely need it!! Also, listen to the volunteer's directions at The Big House or you will most likely get lost at this mammoth pre-Civil War cemetery. You can drive fairly close but there is a precipitous walk... Sure you can drive through the winding concrete paths, but parking your car and heading out is another way to explore. There are unique masonry and cast iron fences, mausoleums with stained glass, imposing glorious statuary all in a terraced scenery of many trees and shrubs. The cemetery was planted with many unique trees and shrubs. The land is terraced... More

Rose Hill, along the banks of the slow flowing Olgmulgee River you will find this cemetery parkland. Here lie Macon's old and proud and in the attach Oakland those who once had lesser station. Here began (Confederate) Memorial Day when the women of Macon hide all the bodies from the hospital cemeteries brought and laid out in one big square.... More

Take a few moments and drive through the beautiful and a historic Rose Hill cemetary. Monuments and markers have withstood the test of time and the elements.

Things to do in Macon. We visited Duane and Berry as well. It was kind of hard to find. The roads are narrow and the hot day we went, the state prisoners were doing grass cutting. Upon maneuvering past some old Confederate graves, we drove near the tracks, only to find the prison van and trailer blocking the road. It... More

We came to see Rose Hill cemetery our first night. It was beautiful and peaceful. However because it was built in the 1800s the streets are narrowed. The scariest part is there was a tree blocking our path and we had to back up, which if you ever been you would know it's hilly and scary! However solider square was... More

My wife and I took our oldest grandson (16) to Rose Hill this morning. This place is full of history. Many old tombstones and lots of past prominent Maconites rest here. You can spend days in here if you have the time. Cemetery was opened in 1840. Many of those buried here were born in the late 1700's. It will... More

I've visited this Historic Cemetery 3 times over the last 8 years and absolutely LOVED my past 2 visits. This recent one however left me ANGRY and disappointed. WEEDS atop the burial plots, grounds had NOT been mowed as they once spotlessly were, lovely natural pond areas had overgrown to the point that they were BARELY recognizable, and downed limbs... I have always wanted to stop and see their graves. It was 5 minutes off of the Interstate. Found a you tube video that took us right to their graves.
