There is always something blooming here. I did not expected so much vegetation, bids, flowers and spectacular views. There is even a double arch up in the mountains where you can hike ( I didn't because I didn't have much time, I was just passing...More

Too bad this park is so out of the way, it's at minimum a 2 day commitment, considering the long drive. It's 2 to 3 hours from from Tucson, through some construction and two border patrol points, one of them just outside the park entrance....More

Great National Monument not crowded in early May. Beautiful saguaro flowers just beginning to bloom along with lots of prickly pear blooms.

We came in from Tuscon and drove through 2 border checkpoints on the long, boring drive. We were happy to finally get to the visitor's center and have some time to watch the orientation film and look at the exhibits. After that, we headed out...More

Visited Organ Pipes and camped at Twin Peaks for a couple of days/nights in late April. We enjoyed ourselves in the tranquility of the uncrowded campground. The facilities at the campground were clean and well maintained. Some of the campsites have shaded areas, which was...More

The park isn't convenient to get to, but it is worth the trip. There are several drives you can take and you don't need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We only had one day to spend, and were only able to undertake the "shorter" drive,...More

Hi - we are planning on visiting Ajo in two weeks. We are interested in touring Organ Pipe but have a 33 ft. motorhome. Is this going to work on any of the roads within the park? Thanks!

Absolutely! They are all pull through sites. It is a wonderful campground...one of our favorites. The driving loop is lovely. The short ranger talks they offer in the visitor center are also worth your time. Very special... More

When do the cactus flower? Is it pretty much the same every year? Also, do you recommend the park for 5 and 7 yr old kids or is the risk of little hands and ankles being attacked by needles/hooks too big?

I'm not knowledgeable about flowering other than it probably is about the same time every year. I have grandkids 6, 5,4,3 and would take them. They aren't close so they haven't been. just don't let them get too close... More

Jan Feb March are our cool rainy season. It depends on the weather. we usually say here in Phoenix march showers bring April flowers. How ever this season is very mild so far. That can change by lows moving threw the area.
