A nice introduction to Petrified Wood...the trail sits outside the back entrance to the visitors center.... lots of color and some very large specimens of "rock wood." Some of the nicer examples are close by and would be somewhat accessible even to those with minor...More

Driving tour with several short stops for brief hikes. Really stunning views! The park rangers were super friendly and there were several short hikes available for all ranges of fitness.

Costs $30 to get into the park but all the attractions are free. Good historic and science information. Loved seeing the petrified forest. Some good locations for some hiking through the forest.

Terrific drive, and a good day trip if staying in or around the Sedona area. Worth seeing for the day.

We decided to add this at the last minute because we already drove to Winslow. You can make this stop as short or as long as you desire. Lots of pull offs to see the views.

We stopped at most of the overlooks along the road which runs through the forest and enjoyed the wonderful views. Don't be misled by the name "forest" there are no trees anywhere, just the petrified logs from prehistoric times.

You can make the visit as long or as quick as needed. You can take the hour ride or just stop by the visitors center and look around there. They have numbered sites to visit along a few pathways right there.

Roughly how long would it take to drive through the park? We are moving home cross country and will be passing nearby, but want to gauge how much time to build into our trip. Thanks!
