Cute little historical stop, and the volunteers were friendly and knew a lot of interesting things to share. Nice warm bathrooms in the winter (priorities!).

The building was cool to see. Sadly I did not have time to stop in but it was cool to see the area. Got to take pictures of the landscape

There is quite a bit of history to this, but just walking in you understand where the Pixar movie Cars gets the inspiration. The Cone Motel, curios shop, neon, Lightning McQueen retro paint job, and Route 66 photos and artwork are all here. The Harvey History is great to learn and they are remodelling to open up a cafe. The inn is interesting but not very exciting. You get great views of the painted forest but there is not much to see in the inn itself. The old ranger we got talking to was very helpful and interesting. I wouldn't make a special trip to go there but would drop in if passing

The Inn is okay to have a quick look inside but it is situated at one of the best viewpoints of the Painted Desert. There are also restrooms (toilets) here but beware they involve several sets of steps!

Anyone travelling into the Painted Desert (and even those just passing through on I-40) should take a detour to the Painted Desert Inn. It has an important history. Read the National Parks flyer -- it will indicate that history. The Inn began as a stop for travellers on Route 66 in 1920. It was sold to the gov't in 1936,... More

Located at the northern end of the park with views over the Painted desert this has a deal of history. Apparently on Route 66 this old inn has retained its original character and is well mainteined and should be visited.

This is a beautiful restoration of the past. You can just imagine the visitors of the past enjoying the beauty of this part of the country.

This no longer functions as an inn or eating place although I heard drinks and ice cream might be available in the future. Good idea. Wonderful murals, beautiful glass ceiling, interesting history and views.

This building is unique and worth the stop. Be sure to get there early. It closes ahead of park hours.
