I love the open space and foothills of Albuquerque, and Elena Gallegos park has some of the most spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains. I went to a wedding here at one of the areas available for reservation, and it created a stunning backdrop for a beautiful ceremony. There are really so many nearby trails in the Albuquerque area, but... More

This trail system, which is part of the Open Space, is amazing. It's VERY well maintained. The trails are VERY well marked. They're open to walking and biking. It's only $1 during the week and $2 on the weekends. The pay station has a good, easy to read trail map. There are miles and miles of trails so you can... More

Nice stop on the way to the Scandia Tramway. Easy hike. Good trails. Beautiful scenery. Didn't get to see the rattlers though.

Loved this park. Nicely maintained trails with marked intersections help you know where you are. But they're unobtrusive, so you get the feeling of wandering thru a Southwestern meadow. Lots of pics of the Sandia Crest, wildflowers and vistas of Albuquerque. Keep your ears open for cyclists and joggers- it's a great exercise area too! Only downside is that's there's... More

The outdoor venue was beautiful as the music could be heard while we watched the sun set and the moon rise in the midst of many stars.

We hiked on the Pino Trail from the parking lot. While the flat desert area was pleasant, once we got into the woods the landscape and views became stunning.

It's unfortunate that such a scenic place has become plagued with gang-related crime. While the police presence has been increased, they can't be there around the clock and the gang members are well aware of it. If you go, do it with a group and during daylight hours.

Glad we found this while researching Albuquerque. This is a nice low-key hiking area. We took our 2 and 6 year old kids and they handled it just fine in the morning on a brief hike. Scenic and quiet area. I think it was $1 to access the park, so it's an affordable activity!

I wish this park wasn't so far away for me, I would walk here more often if it was. So pretty, the landscape changes the higher you go. Me and my teenagers went as far as the first dip inside the mountains. Going back soon!

I can't imagine many more places more perfect to watch the sunset than here. You are so close to the mountains but far enough away to see them lit up in all the beautiful light of the sunset. The mountain are also perfectly clear, unlike looking through the light haze that can often make the view not as vibrant from... More
