Imagine over 500 colourful hot air balloons rising up at dawn over the New Mexico landscape… there's truly nothing like it. The place to experience it is each October at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Spectators and balloon pilots from all over the world gather (some even camping in their caravans) to watch the mass ascensions held in the mornings, and night events like the 'glowdeo'. Music stages are set up during the day and performers stroll through the festival crowds, which can number 750,000 people.

Wow! What a festival! We attended the fiesta Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The entrance to the park is busy but well organized. Allow plenty of time for this process. We were told 1.6 million people attended this festival this year. Parking was $15 per car....More

I cannot say enough good things about the annual balloon fiesta! The sights and colors, it's amazing! I have relatives who like to come in from out of town specifically to see this annual event. It's worth the trip!

The main purpose of going to the USA for our honeymoon was to visit the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and in particular tick of a bucket list item and take a ride in a balloon. I had worked in New Mexico 20 years ago and fondly...More

Being down on the field making your way through the balloons, watching the balloons fill with air and lift off is indescribable. The colors, the excitement, early morning then the evening with the lighted balloons. It's also fun to watch from different vantage points, watching...More

2017 was one of the best weather years ever at the Balloon Fiesta, but any year is a good year to attend. The size and colors of the regular balloons, along with the many special shapes, make it a special time for the whole family....More

Weather was better than past years. I've gone every year since 1992. Park and Ride is the way to go. Stress free. Crowds can get thick and food lines long and slow. Getting there early helps. Bring chairs or a blanket and pack some food.

It was especially nice to be able to walk among the balloons as they were being inflated, and then waiting to be cleared to launch. Everyone was friendly and the skies were crowded with a multitude of colors and shapes. Off site parking and buses...More

Hi, thank you for your question. A mass ascension is when all 500 + balloons take flight. Other sessions may feature fewer balloons, but are just as impressive, as there are still many balloons that launch. One of the... More
