Drove this road in mid-September. It was very dry & dusty. Had no problem with our full size rental car. The road was narrow in places, but there is plenty of pull-off spots. Any oncomming traffic was courteous & patient. Either they or us would pull over for passing. I'd be concerned if the weather was very wet. No serious... More

We traveled up the coast of California from San Francisco, and a major objective of ours was to see the biggest of the big Redwoods/Sequoias. We were told that Jedediah Smith State Park (just south of the Oregon border) was beautiful. In fact, it exceeded that description, and we walked through a couple of different groves of Redwoods in this... More

Even with the construction, this drive was worth every second! The redwoods are just amazing. We took the short Stout Trail but it looked like any trail would be beautiful! What a way to start our visit to the park!

Feels like a trip back to a different time. There is an eary light the permeates this old growth forest and its unique to be able to experience this from your car. The hikes and paths right off the road are worth it as well.

We did several drives through redwood forests on a recent trip to northern California and this was the best. It might be tough if there was lots of traffic, though! Remember that it IS a two-lane road! Don't just drive through – get out and walk to experience the forest.

We really debated, REALLY debated whether we would be doing the right thing if we took our little VW Jetta rental car on a a gravel road adventure through the redwoods. We decided to go for it and we are NOT regretful in the least. What. an. experience! We started on the Crescent City side of the roadway. We weren't... More

We hiked 4 plus miles earlier in the day in a more southern State Park so we were tired of walking but still wanting to see more Redwoods so this was perfect. Loved it! Nice scenic drive. Some areas you could pull off if you wanted. Huge trees. Beautiful place. Wish we would have had more time to come back... More

Great place to start your Redwood viewing. Take Elk Valley Rd off Highway 101 to Howland Hill. Continue onto a 17 mile loop of majestic Redwood beauty that take u back to CA-199 into Crescent City. Slow trip because it is a one-lane road with lots of turns but don't miss out in the beauty. Amazing stuff.
