One lane dirt road that is accessible by car. From South Crescent City near harbor, take Elk Valley Rd to Howland Hill Road (small brown sign says 'Stout Grove'). Howland Hill Rd (1-lane with turn-outs) winds ... drive slowly & carefully, enjoy the ride ......More

Enchanting winding dirt road that takes you through the redwood forest. Squeeze past standing and downed trees. Part single lane with turnouts to let motorists get by. Takes you to several trailheads. Best driven after a rain. Otherwise prepare to exit with a vehicle coated...More

So we decided to visit as recommended and we certainly were not disappointed. Amazing trees, so much to see. Great to go for a little wander but remember to take your repellent.

What an amazing 6.5 miles drive. It goes onto rough roads but is really worth it. The size of the trees will blow your mind. Well worth the offroad experience.

I read something that President Johnson vetoed a bill to make this a 4 lane highway back in the day. So glad he did. Everyone needs to drive this at least once in their life. Remember though- the real beauty is off the road down...More

There are some small parking areas along the way that you could use. Nothing on the road, per se. The road is basically one lane and the shoulder is used so people from the other direction can pass.
