I looked at reviews and costs of horseback riding until I was sick to my stomach and I eventually chose Sombrero Stables over the other companies in Estes Park. My wife and I had ridden quarter horses multiple times so we were confident in our skills. Our two children who were 8 and 10 had never ridden a horse on their own. We decided on the 2 hour tour and it was just the right amount of time. We were paired up with another group of three and we chose to ride in the back of the group. I heard that you would not be able to hear the guide from other reviews. Our guide was spectacular and checked in on us the entire ride. The horses were some of the best trained horses that I had been on. You really did not have to guide them that much. I rode rocket and he was nothing like his name. The 2 hour trek takes you up a mountain and the switchbacks and climbs were pretty steep at times. The views were fantastic. But I was more impressed with how well trained the horses were. At one point we came across a group of mule deer and as we sat and watched them in the field, a young deer popped up out of no where and ran in front of my wife and kids scaring them and the horses. The horses jumped a little but did not run or jump. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Estes Park…

Our family of 4 took a two hour trip with Sombrero Stables in Oct. 2020. The stable followed all Covid protocols. This is a family owned operation that has been in Estes Park for 3 generations. We were quickly paired up to horses in a small group of 8 riders and a guide. We were able to cover a lot of ground and see more of Estes Park. The Rocky Mountains were gorgeous this time of year! The aspens were golden! Our horses were pretty easy to manage. They seemed well cared for, and they rotate them often so they don’t get overused. It was a great way to spend our last morning in Estes Park. …

My family had an amazing time with Sombrero Stables. They were amazing with both of my children (ages 8 and 13) and we had a wonderful time!

We have been to eight National Parks and done horseback riding each time. They have all been wonderful and it has been a highlight of our trip every time. We were so excited about horseback riding in the Rocky Mountains/Estes Park. Unfortunately, we had probably the worst tour of any kind on our travels with Sombrero Stables. My happy go lucky son even had a miserable time. The problem was not the horses or the trail. It was our guide Rachel. She was incredibly rude and made the ride very uncomfortable from the beginning. No one seemed to be having a good time. It really was very disappointing and we wished we have gone with another company. A tour guide can really make or break your experience.…

Since this horse back riding excursion was taking place in Colorado we had high expectations. It was a beautiful trail but these were the usual zombie horses that walk themselves, at a snails pace. In fact, when my horse picked up the pace for just a second our guide gave me a scolding. We would have passed on the trip had we known it was going to be the usual trail ride with horses on autopilot.…
