With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

We went on Saturday, arriving around 10:30. The primary zoo parking lot was full and the line for tickets was long, but once we got inside the zoo it was fine - not over crowded. Old zoo, but they do a good job of maintaining the exhibits. It was a fun family day, well worth the price of admission

Wide range of animals mostly in good enclosures but some could have been better but better than many zoos. Well presented for visitors with close views of animals. Plenty basic fast food outlets and a restaurant (not visited). Well stocked gift shop and some amusements. Entrance fee average. Worth a visit for a family.

We hadn't been to the zoo in a decade since our kids were small... and this was a perfect zoo to see! Lots of animals to see and lovely grounds and places to stop in the shade and rest. Loved all the monkeys! SO MANY! Great 1/2 day activity!

SA Zoo is very clean and lots to see and do, whether it's with kids or adults. The new carousel is beautiful and very affordable too. Feeding the birds, the fish or giraffes is quite entertaining for kids or adults.

I've been to zoo's all over the country---and the world. This one was fine, but could be improved. As with so many zoo's there are exhibits without animals. This is always a disappointment especially when you have a guest that would love to see the animals. Plus, remember, you do Pay to go in. The butterfly exhibit was nice, though... More

I've always believed that the zoo is a great attraction for any person who is actually breathing. San Antonio Zoo proves that to be so very true. Worth the time if you have it, be careful of inclines and hills and paths that are difficult for wheelchairs. And even though it is peak time - stay away during those blazing... More

We enjoyed our return visit to the San Antonio Zoo. It was a beautiful day to go and enjoy the day. The animals were out and about.... Had a great time learning about the Lions as the staff was having an employee training session. Sort of a get to know you with the Lions. It was nice to see Lucky... More

I got the "Fun Day Pass" which included admission, train ride, feeding the birds and Lory Landing and a carousel ride, all for just under $20. I spent about 3 hours here and had a lovely time. It was early, just after opening, so not too busy. Saw lots of animals, fed the birds and the giraffes. The staff were... More

we usually go to zoo's wherever we go. This one was average. many of the animals were not out and about. I imagine that this can't be helped during certain times of the day. All in all I would return to kill a day but not the best I have been to. There is some great exhibits with birds which... More
