This is an outstanding museum. I first encountered it by passing by the museum in a river cruise. It stands high on a bank above the river. It's architecture is very interesting with lots of glass and a very large terrace. They have excellent exhibitions and a good restaurant and gift shop as well.

Visitors expecting to find SAMA equal or better than the Kimball or Museum of Fine Arts Houston will be disappointed, but that is not to say that SAMA is absolutely worth the visit. The museum is known primarily for its collection of historic, folk, and contemporary Latin American art, but visitors will be possibly surprised at the quality of the... More

I have been wanting to visit SAMA for some time, so today a friend and I made the drive from Kerrville to my home town of San Antonio. Having had the privilege of visiting many of the world's great museums, I was ready for a let-down. Was I wrong! Sure, this isn't the Louvre or the MOMA in New York,... More

We enjoyed our visit to the museum. Very eclectic mix of items and we saw it for free as we went on Sunday before 12 midday. Caught the Rio river taxi there and back. Had to wait a long time for the taxi, but was lovely journey there and back. Found out there was free parking on site, which could... More

We were disappointed that much of the art was in storage, but the building is unique, and we enjoyed the Asian art exhibit. We were surprised that there wasn't much "Texan" art, but who knows what exactly is in storage currently.

Hello Sharon, Thank you for taking the time to visit and review the Museum. We’re glad you enjoyed the Asian art collection. We are an encyclopedic museum, which means we have a large and varied collections (5,000 years of art history, from all over the globe). We do not specialize in Texan art, but we do have a nice selection... More

WE spent an afternoon here and thoroughly enjoyed it even though many galleries were closed for the expansion and construction project. The museum has a wide variety of collections from antiquities to modern. Well worth a visit.

Everyone, and I do mean everyone, we interacted with was so friendly. There is so much to see and do. The Riverwalk is a must see. Take the guided boat tour, and the hop-on-off bus/trolley tour. The Alamo is very interesting, don't miss the movie and the posters of the timeline. The Pearl has awesome shops and restaurants. Free Friday... More

When we go on vacation, we always visit the local museum. This was in a strange area and you could easily drive by it as it doesn't stand out in a museum sort of way. Inside though, it is very modern and larger than expected.. There is enough art, photography and relics to keep you interested and satisfied for the... More

I've gone on the free evening when it's open late. It has many exhibits. I have yet to see the entire museum.
