My wife and I went on 2 hour "Sunset Sail" on the Spike Africa. The boat was really nice and the crew was friendly and knowledgeable, but the experience itself was quite uneventful. It may have been that there was very little wind - but we essentially motored out of the harbor, put the sails up and traveled for a... More

I chartered Spike Africa for the day on 9/12/2016 and had an incredible day with Captain Kenny, his two-person crew, and naturalist April. The crew was courteous, knowledgable, accommodating, and answered every question I had about the boat, it's history and island. April's laminated cards of sea males, sea birds and underwater life were great visuals in helping me to... More

We went on an evening sail. It was pleasant didn't see much wildlife. The staff was friendly and cordial but after the sail we thought about it. They charged I believe $35.00 a person there were over 20 people on the ship. That comes out to over $700.00 for about a 2-3 hour sail. For that price they should have... More

Hello, Thank you for your response. It brings up a complicated issue. Remember we have a 3 month working window. the schooner is either under restoration in the yard or laid up for 9 months of the year. Her slip rental fees, maintenance fees, huge insurance fees all normal business expenses such as book keeping etc .continue and on and... More

We sailed on the Spike Africa for 4days. The crew was wonderful! Captain Kenny put us right in the middle of the Orca whales 2 days in a row! Deckhands Chris and Emma made the best food. The food was organic and made from scratch! They served beautiful gourmet meals on the deck! We appreciated their efforts to make this... More

We booked the 4th of July firework trip. The view of the fireworks was fantastic. We boarded around 8:00 p.m. and hung out in the harbor until 9:45 p.m. when we got into firework viewing position. The price was $75.00 a person, you were able to bring your own drinks and snacks. It would have been better to sail around... More

Management response:

Dear OCBB Thank you for your review. Unfortunately the evening of the 4th of July was a very untypical still night. I checked with crew and log book and I assure you that the sails were up for your entire trip until just before the fireworks and there was a light breeze. There was the option to turn the engine... A trip aboard Spike Africa is a great way to relax and enjoy the views on the island from the water, and when she is fully sailed, that is amazing.

A group of 5 travelers boarded the boat 'Spike Africa', a beautiful 80 foot schooner. We had 2 Texans, 2 from Arizona, 1 Long Island New Yorker, plus captain and crew. The weather during our full day sail changed dramatically, which made for one of the most fascinating and exciting sailing voyages I've ever done. We headed out of Friday... More
