Hyde Memorial State Park is a glow with Color in the Fall. The Aspen trees glow yellow, all along the drive through the park. Very scenic road, with access on side of road to pull over and take pictures. Be careful at dusk, the mule deer are on the move, we saw several, so amazing.

I think there's a ranger station and bathroom but I've never stopped there. Quite a number of beautiful woodsy hikes start from pullouts in the park, and that's pretty much the point. You can go for miles, but just a short distance from the road you'll find yourself in rustic paradise. Only a short drive to escape Santa Fe.

My friends and I are in good shape, and we found the East-West Loop trail HARD. Be ready for some climbs. It was absolutely beautiful at the top.

Hyde memorial state park has great campsites which are inexpensive($7) and the area smells sweet as a forst should. But even more special was a wedding I attended in the lodge there and the atmosphere was great---not fancy or overdone, but foresty and just right for a young couple starting out.

We were there in October, and the aspens were stunning - actually breathtaking in their beauty. Having never seen a stand of aspen at all, it was simply magnificent to be able to see them in their height of color. Don't miss it. You can walk as far as you like, but go to the Aspen Ridge spot which is... More

Circle trail east and west. A lot more elevation than expected but unbelievable views. Highly recommended. Note visitor center and bathrooms closed for the season in early October but trails well marked.

We hiked the West Circle trail on a crisp October day. The Aspen were changing colors and there was ice on the ground from a storm the day before. This hike may be difficult for a person out of shape, but our 10 and 11 year old energetic boys hiked it with no problem. The trail starts at 8200 Ft... More

As far as I could tell it's just a section of Artist Rd that's designated as a State Park. Seems more like a Preserve. The info center ( just a small building) was closed and we didn't see any kind of facilities. On this section of road you have to pay for parking (self-serve) to go hiking. There are camp... More

We did this the day after arriving (when we still had not adjusted to the altitude), and while that made it challenging, the beauty of the place and the ease of travel made this very trip very appreciated. While not as dramatic as some other areas (i.e. Rio Grande Gorge), it is a very accommodating trip out of Santa Fe... More
