In Santa Fe on business I took my host's recommendation and headed out to find the Atalaya trail. There's a whole network of trails in the area so I found it a little difficult to figure out where to go but thanks to a fellow hiker I soon found the trail. I didn't make it to the top due to... The views are so breath taking and it is quiet and peaceful at the top--well worth the hike and feeds the soul.

Took us about three hours to go up pretty steep incline in places, but was worth it, great views, had rained a little and there was sun clouds and a rainbow when we were at the top, beautiful. Took about two hours to get down. Glad we came here for the day.

We started in the St. John college parking lot and followed trail # 174. According to our Garmin watches, it was an 8 mile hike. The trail is fairly steep in places, but not dangerous. Take with you one to two bottles of water, you'll need it. We started at 11:00AM and the first third was pretty warm. As we... More

YOu can't believe you are so close to town, but lost in the beautiful pinon pines, accompanied by birds and views. Awesome hike. Bikers love the trail too, but are no bother.

Very enjoyable hike -- be prepared for a steep uphill and bring plenty of water! Easy access from downtown Santa Fe and the views form the top across the Rio Grande Valley are su[erb.

great views, gets you high above the city when you get to the top. Steep in places, but not too steep that you can't climb the trail.

Always a Wonderful Hike. I like to hike it in the snow. The trail is steep at parts. The views at the top are worth it.

Hiking from St. John's parking lot to the summit provides both a workout and an amazing view of Santa Fe from above.

Don't go it you don't like steep hiking. But the vistas are lovely and it's right in town. Better vistas are available but this is really convenient.
