After visiting Luray Caverns in the morning, my husband and I headed into the town to grab a bite to eat and also for a nice afternoon walk. We parked in the Ruffner Plaza parking lot right off of W Main Street. You will see a Hawksbill Greenway welcome sign (one of many on the greenway) and also a large color coded map. You can immediately start walking right after you park. According to my Apple Watch, the entire loop was a little more than 3 miles. At one point, you cross a street to continue on the loop which is marked with colors on the pavement that correspond to the map.
There are plenty of memorial benches, flowers, wildlife (so many ducks!), porta potties, and murals along the way. We also saw fishermen, families wading in the water, and several cows. Overall a very pleasant, scenic, and easy/flat walk. Recommended for Pokémon Go players!

My husband and I were very pleased with how beautiful this walk was. Easy paved walkway, large enough to easily pass other walkers. Loved that the you follow the creek the whole way. Saw fisherman pull some nice size trout out too! There are even cows in the loop area! Plenty of places to use restrooms/clean porta potties. Approx. 3 miles if you start at either end and walk the entire paved area, however there are plenty of parking areas to choose from. We had planned to bike it however we noticed only walkers so we decided to just enjoy the walk too.

The trail is about a mile end to end. It is fairly flat and parallels the river. For those looking for a short walk, this one is fine. Surprisingly, there is an abundant array of water birds,

It's a used trail far from pristine. Trash on the trail dog bags left old ones. Spitting dog bags behind logs is not picking up after dog. Otherwise nice trail minimum challenge for Drs.

A two mile, pretty level walk by the creek. Nice paved path to walk on and enjoyable to watch the ducks and fish as you walk.

Definitely a nice feature for the town to have. Kind of like their version of urban hiking, but just in a quainter manner. My only complaint is that while their map online is somewhat helpful (color coding, etc.), it was a bit challenging to find landmarks to put into Google Maps to find parking for the outer parts of the trail.

The Hawksbill Greenway is a 2 mile paved path for multiple usage that runs along the Hawksbill Creek through the middle of the town and along the business Rt. 340. The water is nice and clean and the trail is wide with good pavement. The South end of town near the train bridge is one of the popular places for family to enjoy cool water. At the middle of the town near Main Street located a small plaza with outdoor stand and benches. Good way to step off the street to enjoy nature, especially if you stay overnight in town.

The Greenway provides a wonderful space to get some fresh air and exercise. They have taken great care to provide a well-paved path through some beautiful natural settings. There are plenty of benches and picnic tables along the route as well. While the bathroom is currently closed (COVID-19), there are ports-johns if necessary.
