Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

First let me say that we are experienced Newport visitors. This was our 6th visit to Newport in 3 years. We always purchase the five mansion ticket and visit two mansions per trip, since the ticket does not expire it is a great deal. We...More

Seeing Rosecliff was a welcome change from the dark and dreary homes on the street. The light and airy rooms and the very good self-guided tour made it one of our highlights.

The grand ballroom. The heart shaped grand stairs. It's grand. These are the palaces of American aristocracy. It's hard to fathom the economy, the industry, the wealth, the social mores that built these estates.

This home was beautiful and it was a very short tour compared to the other mansions. If you only have time for a few tours, I wouldn’t recommend..

Great old party house with grand ballroom and sparkling history tinged with sadness for the lady of the house at her demise

We enjoyed walking around here - but it is set-up with little displays throughout vs a fully furnished home. That, in comparison to the Marble House, felt a little odd. The women working at the door were so friendly - they kept teasing my husband,...More

This mansion is smaller in size when compared to The Elms or Th Breakers. There is a patio with huge pots and great view of Atlantic ocean. This is the best part of this tour.

I really wanted to see this mansion to see how the parties and festivities would have been. The house was truly designed to entertain and it still does today as a wedding venue. A really great experience, the ballroom and lawn did not disappoint. I...More

Hi! There is no set dress code because the Pierre Cardin exhibition is just like any other museum exhibition you would go to. Dress as fashionably as you'd like - but definitely, wear comfortable shoes is the one thing I... More
