From pink flamingos to African giraffes, the Honolulu Zoo is home to a little bit of everything from the animal kingdom. Its animal population includes more than 64 reptile, 38 mammal and 160 bird species. The 42-acre facility is organized into three tropical ecological zones: Tropical Rainforests, Pacific Islands and the African Savanna. Among its highlights is a new $12-million, 1.5-acre Asian tropical elephant exhibit that includes a 7,260-squre-foot holding area and two 55,000-gallon pools.

Not a whole lot of animals but great with what they have

They have all of the important animals, giraffes, tiger, monkeys, rhinos, elephants, chimpanzees and more plus great gift shop and snack & drink shop.

Went here with hubby and initially we were pleasantly surprised by the price - probably half what we would pay for the zoo in the UK. If you like birds you should be OK. That's pretty much all there is. We saw a couple of zebra, a few giraffes and the backs of some tired lions. There were also some... More

Sorry ... I hate giving a bad review to a zoo but this one is fairly sad ... really little kids might like it but my two who normally really enjoy zoos where very disappointed... there were hardly any animals ... where there should have been a troop of monkeys there was only two ... we have a small zoo... This was a nice place to stroll around and see some interesting things. Not a big zoo but we enjoyed the primates and the birds of which there were quite a few.

Get to the end of the beach and there is the zoo. It is small by some others but very well organised and easy to get round in an hour and a half. It is strange to see the giraffes and the background is not the African veld but hotels

Great value for a half day excursion. Walk from Waikiki Beach in about 15 minutes. Well worth it. There are lots of shady areas so you never get too hot.

We really enjoyed the zoo, and saw the biggest turtles ever. Lots of see and do, and lots of photo ops.

I have been to several zoo's over the years . The honolulu zoo is not much different then others. Half of the exhibits were empty or closed for cleaning . The cost was about average but you have to pay to park . However that is to be expected because parking cost everywhere on the island.

I have a hard time calling the Honolulu Zoo a Zoo. There were more empty animal enclosures than animals. We did see a lot of birds, monkeys, zebras, giraffes, and a kimono dragon. No elephants, lions, tigers, cheetahs, hippos, rhinos, llamas or hyenas.

Weird to have a zoo right next to hotels and the beach. We went - some exhibits closed. The animals we did see were amazing, but the zoo is looking quite tired. Its a small zoo so great for little ones.

Thank Le S
