The helicopter flight without doors is exhilarating ...great 50 minute overview covering of all of Oahu. Pilot added plenty of commentary and fun. All the staff at Makani Kai Helicopters were very friendly and professional. Highly recommended!

Bloody Unreal. Visited Pearl Harbour day before then to follow flight of attack was quite moving. Evan was very informative particularly on his knowledge of new cattle breeds, quite "unbelievable". Scenery literally takes your breath away. Highly Recommend.

Cattle breeds? You read here first, folks: Fly Makani Kai for the best in aerial tours and the latest news in the world of animal husbandry. Seriously, I'm happy you were impressed with Evan as a tour guide. Thanks for your review.

Fantastic tour! Our pilot, Evan, was wonderful, and very informative. Earlier in the week we had taken a bus tour, and getting to see some of the same places via helicopter was spectacular. The views were beautiful, and seeing the island this way really lets...More

Thanks, Leslie, for your insight: we often recommend guests take a ground tour of the island in conjunction with their aerial tour, just to get a better idea of the lay of the land. Mahalo, too, for your kind comments about Evan: no one knows...More

Evan was our pilot. Isn't it great to have such a good experience that you completely remember the name of your tour person? Everything was fantastic. I am so proud that I didn't pee in my pants when we first lifted off. This was my...More

Nathan was our pilot. He was friendly and explained everything as we flew over it. The doorless helicopter ride was great; being able to stick my head out of a helicopter and look thousands of feet down without falling to my death was amazing. We...More

Yo, Nacho, glad to hear that Nathan showed you a good time. Tell your friends that 'doors off' is the way to go.

We had never been on a helicopter before so I was a little nervous...so of course we went for the "open door" experience! Lol. It was amazing, the highlight of the trip. It was wonderful to see the island from that perspective. They picked us...More

Pilot Jim was great! Highly recommended. A great way to see the island. PJ was ManaKai Helicopters was also great in organizing it. First time helicopter ride. Smoothest ride I have ever had. Pilot Jim kept saying there would be bumps ..but there were none.

Our guests often wonder what they should wear for their tour. The answer is: something in which you're comfortable. Pants and shorts are fine, as are open-toe shoes or sandals. The closed-door tours (30-, 45- and 60-minute A-Star tours) are akin to traveling in a car; there is adjustable air conditioning. On the 50-minute Doors Off tour, you'll want to consider a light jacket or sweater. Oh, it's always plenty warm on the ground here, but when you get to 1,500 feet with the wind whistling through the cabin, you'll be glad for the extra layer.

Doors off definitely had a chill factor and I was glad that I planned ahead and had a light warm jacket on.

I called about the doors off helicopter adventure - is there a need to buy a comfort seat if you are over the weight limit?

Yes, there is a weight limitation. Passengers weighing in excess of 250 pounds may be charged for a "comfort" seat, which is the seat next to your own. The charge is one-half the regular tour rate. Passengers weighing in... More

How many people can ride in the helicopter at a time? I am traveling with another person and 4 kids

We use two types of aircraft on our tours, the six-passenger Eurocopter A-Star and the four-passenger MD-500. We use the smaller helicopters for our Doors Off tours, so simply plan one of our regular tours and you'll be fine.
