You can't visit Waikiki without paying your respects to the Duke Kahanamoku statue, which is covered with leis. A definite must-visit.

This statue is located on waikiki beach. Lots of people take photos here, a great place to people watch. There is a hula show on certain nights and a small mall across the street. They have a food market there, fresh fruit, salad, etc. Great for a picnic. You can find shade in this area as well.

We saw the statute of Duke on several occasions and each time it appeared to have fresh leis in his outstretched hands - I thought that was pretty amazing. There were many tourists taking pictures and there was a spectacular sunset behind the statute - really something to remember.

When we were at the statue, I called Mom so she could see us on Waikiki Beach with "The Duke." This was a wonderful statue to visit, in beautiful surroundings, with the added feature... More

There is plenty of detail to read there on this great athlete , I was not aware that he was also a multiple Olympic Gold... More

Very nice statue and informing reading on the plaque about his accomplishments as an athlete of Hawaii. Can see it also from the trolley and get a nice picture.

Visit the statue to the first surfer. Fresh leis hanging on it everyday. Good photo opportunity . Learn a little about the man.

If you go, you have to at least stop by the statue for a picture. It is in the heart of Waikiki beach and makes for a good photo op.

I found the history interesting and could use this statue as a good landmark when getting directions.
