Further along Kalanianaole Highway is the Makapuu Lighthouse hiking trail. This easy route with its moderate incline to the 647-ft. summit is a popular spot during whale season between December and April. This is a definite photo opportunity even when humpbacks aren’t spouting offshore. If you’re really ambitious, tackle a pre-sunrise hike to the top so you can grab a glorious photo of the sunrise.

Came here on two occasions; the first one was for an early morning hike to catch the sunrise. The park “open” at 7(?) we arrived close to 6:00 so like everyone else who had the same idea, we parked along the side of the road....More

I've trekked to the top of this mountain several times over the years, have to say it never gets old. A good 30 walk up, great workout for sure. But just the views alone is worth it. Highly recommend. Several lookout locations to possibly see...More

This is a lovely hike with spectacular vistas down the coast south to Sandy Beach and Hawaii Kai and up the coast to Kailua and Kaneohe. There is a parking lot at the bottom of the trail that usually has open spots and if that...More

Great hike for families and if you have a stroller. Paved road all the way to the top. Wear sunscreen bc not a lot of shade.

This is a very nice hike with a paved trail that makes it good family fun, not too hard on the knees or feet. Wonderful views can be had. It is HOT though if you go mid-day, so keep that in mind.

Great hike to the top, but the real gem is going down to the tidepools. I don;t recommend this to tourists who are not familiar with hawaiian coastal action, as some people have drowned here, but if you know how to hang, this is one...More

This paved path is very nice and easy to hike. The view from the top is amazing. The hike to the top and back is just over 4km. It’s worth the trip if you are driving by that area.

It was a spontaneous morning hiking for us, that we drove by the Makapuu state park and wasn't so prepared for the trail. But luckily it turns out to be a relatively easy walk with paved road all the way to the top. Just be...More

Yes, the trail from the parking lot to the light house viewing is paved; its uphill and not too steep and strollers should be quite possible.

All free, but parking is tight because of the popularity of the trail with locals and tourists. Go early...best time of the day.
