Great Merlot

We wanted to learn more about Merlots in the Walla Walla region. Northstar did not disappoint -- theirs was quite possibly one of the best we have had in the USA.

Went and enjoyed their blending experience and also a full tasting. The blending experience ($85) includes a vineyard tour, facility tour, the blending experience, a personalized bottle of red blended to your personal taste, and a full tasting of their wine lineup. Really fun, more expensive than I'd usually go but fun to check it off the bucket list. Really... More

Year after year their fall release weekend is the place to be. I can't get away without spending a couple hundred dollars along with picking up my club allotment for the year ... but their large format wines are excellent and impressive for all the holiday dinners yet to come! The food this year for the Friday, members only event... More

Northstar Winery is probably the premier winery in Washington State and is the gold standard for both wines and tasting rooms. If you like wine tasting and make the trip to the Walla Walla you will be mistaken if you do not stop. Their current premier wine is expensive but we bought two bottles and they are well worth it.

Northstar winery is a stand-out. The wines are kind of pricey (most around $40) but every one we tried was outstanding. A lovely white in the semillion--rich enough to stand up to food--and amazing reds. Great to drink now and will also cellar well. The winery is lovely, with a nice covered terrace for picnicking and scenic views of the... More

They have a bunch of great wines to taste including their 2012 premier merlot which was a favorite of mine. The woman pouring my drinks didn't seem all the attentive to my tasting, she would say the name of the wine, pour, and go back to asking another couple that was tasting what they thought of each while explaining more... This is my fourth visit and as always the wine is excellent, the staff attentive, the grounds beautiful. They are dog friendly, reasonable on the tasting fee (waived with purchase), and possibly the best Merlit in Walla Walla.

Really NorthStar is not all that. There is a pompous air in the winery that is a big turn off ~ it is not Leonetti after all. The $ fee to taste followed by the 10 droplets allocated per poor with a tic tax size bite of cheese and snooty service ..... Big miss. There is a ton of competition... More

A friend & I needing some "Mama freetime" decided to spend the weekend in Walla Walla. Northstar was a great winery, with a comfortable atmosphere, & friendly staff. We tasted several delicious wines, & shared a few glasses of their red blend as well, reminiscing for hours! Good times! We'll see you next time Northstar, thank you!!

I have long since been a fan of their merlot which we can find in several stores. However, this was a great opportunity to try some of their wines which are much more difficult to find - cab franc, Malbec, cab, and red blend. Really enjoyed the wines. Overall, for moderate priced reds ($30-40), I would put them easily in... More
