Pricey for adults, but very reasonable for kids under 13. Tour guide was informative. Property is gorgeous and horses were easy to find and watch. Some were friendly and came right up to tour vehicle for treats. Also saw many cow calves as it was birthing week. Some Indian history on property as well. A nice trip.

It's clear these people are here to help the horses. I showed up at 4 pm on a Saturday in February during the off season and they left me in the gift shop (which is pretty small and not much to it, but still) and told me I was welcome to explore the grounds unattended as long as I didn't... More

I had a wonderful visit with the sanctuary. The staff is friendly and very informative about the horses, the mustang story, the founder Dayton O. Hyde's story, the indian story and the local area. It is amazing to experience the beautiful horses relatively close. So many horses with each their own story. You just fall in love with them. I... More

I went on a two hour Bus Tour, but since it was only three of us we were able to take a 4x4. Rick, our guide, was very considerate of our wishes and adjusted the tour acordingly. He was very knowledgeable and answered questions patiently. The scenery itself would have made the tour great, but the horses made it awesome.... More

The sanctuary was one of the highlights of our trip to the Black Hills. My daughters (12 & 15) and I were enthralled by the horses and information shared by our wonderful guide, Dave. We were there off season, so were able to reserve a tour just a day before. We ended up being the only visitors at that time,... More

If you are in the Black Hills area, this place should be added to the Must See list. It is off the beaten track, but what you find when you experience the sanctuary makes it magical. Dayton Hyde founded this horse sanctuary in 1998. You need to make a reservation prior to arriving and there is a fee ($50/$45 seniors),... More

We were lucky to be able to go on the bus trip, even though we didn't have advance reservations. We were gone over 2 hours and it seemed like minutes. My 12 year old granddaughter was enthralled the entire time. It was my 2nd visit and I enjoyed it just as much if not more than the first time, as... More

In my research prior to a vacation to South Dakota, I read about this place and viewed the documentary on the founder, Dayton Hyde. We paid for a one on one tour which was not inexpensive, but it was worth EVERY PENNY AND MORE-- plus it's a tax deductible contribution. We had the most INCREDIBLE guide, Mark, a retired rancher... Outside of Keystone off a long gravel road but totally worth the trip. the horses are well cared for and treTed humanely. The horses are approachable and love to be shown affection. The setting is beautiful, the horses are beautiful and the people who care for them are wonderful. An amazing learning experience I. The middle of nowhere.

This place keeps on changing and many new horses. It is the most wonderful feeling to see these beautiful horses running free. I got to walk among them and found one of my horse and she let me touch her. You have to take the three hour trip which takes you more right in with the horses and you can... More
