We spent a few hours in the Lamar valley and were treated to a spectacle of a herd of bison on the move. Males, females and calves. This seems to be s regular spot to see these animals up close and personal.

The Lamar Valley is just a remarkable place. Late afternoon into evening animals abound. We have seen wolves, coyote, bison, pronghorns, elk, goats, sheep and fishing is good. I find this such a wonderful place. It is not to be missed.

To see wildlife and take serious photos you need to be before dawn at first light and come back 2 hours before sunset and stay until dark.

Depends on time of year- park entrance by Gardiner is really crowded due to Mammoth Hot Springs right now. Some roads are closed during winter months as well. Also they were doing construction on the road between the west... More

At that time of day you will have an easy time parking in any of the roadside pull-outs. It's fairly flat/open so I'm not sure about the best spot for a sunrise. However, that is also the best time to get a chance....still... More
