Dont miss
Aug 2021
Been to the falls and Biscuit Basin before which itself is a great trip. Getting to the overlook is bucket list and the view was spectacular. Got to the top perfectly and didnt have to wait long to see some of the geyers from Upper Geyser Basin of off! There was no evidence of bears on the trial which is both good and bad, but a popular trail so no big either way. Trail not to be missed!!!

The hike to Mystic Falls begins by walking through the Biscuit Basin. One walks across the scarred landscape of Yellowstone's thermal features, then hops on a back country trail. The trail is well traveled and well marked. Not a long walk, but the end is a very pretty waterfall.

Great hike, a little bit of a challenge but worth it
Jul 2020
This is a fantastic hike - challenging but not too difficult with amazing views. We even timed it to see Old Faithful go off when we were at the rope. Go to the right first (hardest part) and then come down to the gorgeous falls.

Fun, easy hike.

This hike has a shorter option and longer option. We took the shorter hike. It was refreshing and peaceful and the falls were just beautiful. It was a pretty easy hike!

Nice hike
Sep 2019
This was a wonderful hike with beautiful scenery along the way and it led to a picturesque waterfall. Missed seeing a grizzly bear by a couple minutes...take that bear spray.

Mystic Falls is a must do hike
Aug 2019
We hiked to Mystic Falls as part of a morning ranger talk so we got a lot of nature and history as we went. The hike to the falls is pretty gradual with nice views along Little Firehole River. The trail opens up as you reach the falls viewpoint. You can return at this point and have a nice easy hike. If you wish to make a loop hike, continue up the switchbacks for more views of falls. The switchbacks continue for about 1/2 mile as you climb out of canyon. This is a pretty strenuous portion if you are not in shape. At top of canyon turn right and follow trail to Upper Geyser Basin Overlook. You can see Old Faithful area, and if you time it right, you may see Old Faithful erupt. From the overlook the trail descends to the right via a series of switchbacks to the trail to falls and Biscuit Basin. It is a great hike to get into the backcountry a bit. Pack your bear spray.

Gorgeous Hike!
Sep 2019
Highly recommend this hike as it's not too strenuous at all. Our hike was ~3 miles and the views it offers from the top followed by the views you get of the falls was spectacular! There is also a shorter hike if you'd rather head straight for the falls, but if you have the time, do the longer one which takes you up the mountain and then back down to the falls.

Moderate trail
Aug 2019
This a great easy hike to take if you want to spend some time in the wilderness of Yellowstone but you don’t have a lot of time or even if you aren’t that physically fit. One mile in you get to some beautiful falls in a nice peaceful setting.

Nice but a lot of bugs
Aug 2019
Worth it if your walking the board walk at biscuit basin. It was not long but there were a lot of bugs so take spray. You don’t get very close to it unless you hike further up and there was a lot of elevation gain so we did not do this.
If you are doing Yellowstone and/or Grand Teton I highly recommend you download the gypsy guide app. It does cost a small amount approximately 9-10 $ but was so worth it. It automatically plays as you drive by locations and tells you about must see location as well as history and were to park.
Also if you fly into Jackson hole you can rent bear spray at the airport for much less than you can buy it for.

Worth the walk
Aug 2019 • Couples
Starts just off the biscuit basin boardwalk. There is a fork on the trail soon after. We took the left fork which was the shorter route to the falls (0.6m I think) which follows the river. It is really worth it as the walk and the falls are great. There were people right under the falls, I have no idea how they got there as we tried and it was very precarious negotiating the rocks and the river as well as some hot springs. We gave up and got wet feet coming back. It didn't matter as you still get great views of the water from the trail. We then headed up the hill to the lookout which is steep but worth it. The trail then leads back to the original fork I mentioned. You could just do the shorter walk (0.6m) along the river there and back and cut out the steep climbs. Whatever you choose it is worth doing.
