If wildlife is what you’re after, this is the area to head to. We encountered what seemed to be hundreds of bison roaming here and with the backdrop of the valley’s open range…it was a spectacular sight. Along with herds of buffalo, we witnessed groups...More

We drove through Hayden Valley from Fishing Bridge to the Yellowstone Grand Canyon. For us it was a very scenic part of the park, with rolling hills and the Yellowstone River below and there are plenty of places to stop along the way to take...More

This lovely valley is verdant and green and a great place for spotting bison. Definitely worth the time to drive the stretch of Park Loop Road between Fishing Bridge and Canyon Village.

We visited the beautiful Hayden Valley in August and saw many bisons. While the bison viewing was very special, traffic was also memorable but in a bad way. Many visitors didn't use the provided pullouts for wildlife viewing and drove slowly while taking photos. Please...More

Any place in Yellowstone can surprise you anytime. Be prepared and look for other parked cars (rather than looking for wildlife itself.) Somebody has already spotted it for you.

Hayden Valley stretches from the Canyon area to the Lake area. There are several places to stop and watch the valley for bison or other wildlife. Bison are the most common animal seen. We saw a few herds. During the day traffic may slow down...More

Our first stop driving through Yellowstone (we came in through the East entrance) and it's obvious that this is a wild place. Aside from the buffalo crossing the road we encountered, there are several places to pull off and observe the herds grazing. You could...More

We visited this valley during the first snowfall of the season -- surprisingly, September 2017! Images of wildlife stood out against the beautiful, white landscape. The valley is along the road from Canyon Lodge to Lake Yellowstone. Be sure to see it on your trip...More

Call them Bison, Buffalo whatever they are here. Large herd in open meadows. Bring a telephoto in case they are across the river.

If there were no wildlife, the valley would be beautiful scenery. But seldom have I been here without seeing all kinds of wildlife, and it's one of the first places we visit when in the park. It's an easy drive if you're not into hiking....More

I would imagine that the best viewing times are early morning and dusk when their prey is also active. Keep in mind that September, being later in the season, is possibly when bears are getting ready for hibernation... More
