We halted here on a tour of the Lamar valley and hiked up to the lake. Parts of the uphill and resulting downhill were steep but the wildflowers and views to the mountains across the highway made it worth the effort. We saw mountain goats...More

The Trout Lake Trailhead is located in the Northeast corner of Yellowstone Park. The parking lot for the trailhead will be on the west side of the road between Soda Butte and Pebble Creek. As many of the reviews state the first section of the...More

Went here on a Tuesday and very simply wouldn't recommend to others. The trail is a steep hike up to the lake. Any moisture on the ground makes the hike that much more slippery and dangerous. Once we got to the top, we were rewarded...More

Describing this hike as easy is a bit misleading, especially since boardwalk hike are labeled as easy. It is true that the hike around Trout Lake is easy, but the climb to get to the lake should be easy to moderate ….. meaning it would...More

Fairly easy hike - about one mile uphill and then you are rewarded with a pristine alpine lake. Went in August so the Grizzlies had already moved on from the trout spawning. Lots of dragonflies at the top of all different colors. Coming back down...More

We had the trails all to ourselves around 8am on what started out as a sunny day in May. The trail to the lake is very well marked, and we saw a number of small animals along the way. There is an uphill climb involved,...More

A short hike appropriate for families through beautiful wildflowers. We saw people fishing - don't know if they caught anything. Flat walk around the lake. Beautiful setting.
