It was a harder climb than expected-must consider the elevation. Went just past the footbridge to the base of the steps. Even wetter and slicker than normal because of the epic rainfall. If you think you are going to get a great view of vernal falls from the footbridge you're going to be disappointed. I did not feel comfortable climbing... More

The Mist trail consists of granite stairs up the side of the Merced River. Make sure you wear comfortable waterproof/ no slip boots & rain gear. It is really wet & gets slippery. Bring water & snacks. I would advise coming down the John Muir trail.

Lots of waterfalls and beautiful views. It's got a lot of areas to rest and you don't have to keep going to vernal fall if you don't want to. The trail is beautiful and we hiekd with young kids

We took the Mist Trail route up to Vernal Falls. When we were there the falls were going at maximum. Yes you do get a little wet but not enough to pull our the poncho or rain gear. The key is to take breaks as the steps are steep in places and very irregular. We chose to come down by... More

Fun family hike on a nice wide trail. Used the road on the way up and the trail to the west of the road on the way down. The return was my favorite trail in the park. Enough elevation gain to get exercise, but still easy enough for a beginner.

The Mist Trail is a relatively easy paved trail up to the base of Vernal Falls. At the base of the falls, the trail turns into a set of stone steps. The steps are wet (from constant mist), steep, rough, and there is no handrail to protect the side of the stairway. Since there was heavy 2-way traffic on the... More

Did the walk to the top of Mist trail. It was a nice sunny day, but don't let that throw you off - you can still get drenched from the mist. Rain jacket highly recommended. This walk is quite far from the main car park and so I would suggest doing it earlier during the day rather than later so... More

Our family of 4 hiked this trail to the top of Vernal Falls only. This hike gains 1,000 feet in elevation over 1.6 miles. There are plenty of places to stop along the way to rest and enjoy the view. Once you get past the bridge, you will go a short distance before hitting granite staircase. There are approximately 300... More

This review is from the perspective of doing it with Kids. We did the trail with our 6, 9, and 13-year-old kids. Our 6-year-old son was occupied by the constant mission in finding a better hiking stick. I won't lie, it can be a strenuous hike because of the incline. Just set expectations for yourself (don't mention it to the... More
