On our first day we arrived into Yosemite at lunchtime so only had time for Tunnel View, the Valley, Bridalveil Falls and the Mist Trail as far as Vernal Fall before we lost light. This is a mild to moderate hike taking around an hour. Vernal Fall is very impressive with a wide waterfall area, even in mid November. You... More

If the weather is good, the Mist Trail is a beautiful trail, but be sure to bring your strong legs! It starts out paved, but steep. The trail makes its way along the Merced River and comes to a footbridge with a view of Vernal Falls in the distance. If you have kids, this might be where you stop. During... More

We had a couple of days in Yosemite and the first one we did the Mist Trail to the Vernal Fall and then to the Nevada Fall. On our way back we took the John Muir Trail to see a different route. I think this is one of the best trails in autumn since these are the only falls that... More

It was marvelous that the autumn rain created enough water flow that the Mist Trail was actually misty in November. What fun! And the yellowing leaves along the river canyon were gorgeous. I chatted with some NPS staff on the Mist Trail, just before the steps. The ranger recommended taking the Clark Point trail as an alternate route down. It... More

First Tip: Go early. This trail is popular and heavily traveled by late morning. If you are looking for solitude this is not the place to find it. Having said that...Even if you get a later start and have to deal with the crowds, this hike is worth the effort. The Mist Trail to Vernal Fall and Nevada Fall is... More

This is a little challenging but well worth it. They call it Mist trail because of the spray from Vernal Falls that you encounter as you hike up to the falls.

We had a great hike up to the top of Vernal and Nevada Falls via the Mist Trail on the way up and John Muir Trail on the way back. You have a number of options depending on how long you want to walk and how much time but I would recommend the whole thing if you are fit enough.... More

We set off for a relaxed hike and then decided to go to the top of the falls... a very tough hike! But very enjoyable... and beautiful!
