I went to sites 1,2 and 3 as part of a tour from my guesthouse. Site 1 has a museum with some background information about the history/use of the jars and the archeological activities in the area. Site 1 is also the largest and I guess most touristy since it is the site closest to the city. It does however... More

We had read about some of the various Jar sites near Phonsavan and wanted to make sure we did not only visit Site one which is the main tourist visited site being closest to the city. We went first to site 2 where you can park nearby and walk for perhaps half a Kilometre to a hilltop site where there... More

Went on a tour arranged by my guest house. Bit pricy but there was only 7 of us and we had a guide fir the day. The Plain of Jars was really interesting - sites 2 and 3 are more out of town but definitely worth seeing as they're in picturesque locations and you get to see a snapshot of... More

We visited Plain of Jars !. There are many more jars sites, but I think one is enough. Got some great photos, and visited a cave on the grounds. The museum on site is small, but informative.

The mystery of these jars is fascinating, but you won't spend too much time here. Best way to see the area is renting a scooter and being free to wander around and then move on to the next thing, rather than having to follow a group.

Of course this is the major attraction in the area. I've been to the sites 1, 2 and 3 and I like 3 best. Beautiful landscapes and this misterious jars, it was a nice trip.

Had no idea of the destruction caused by the Secret War, but the bomb craters are still very present at Plain of Jars Site 1. Really enjoyed walking amongst the jars and since there were not many people when we went we enjoyed the walk. We hired a tuk tuk to take us to the site.

The Plain of Jars is one of the more unusual tourist sites but it is worth seeing. I had read a lot about how the jars are a total mystery and no one knows why they are there, but in Phonsavan there's a ton of information detailing pretty much exactly what the jars were for and how they were used.... The main reason for being in this area. I would recommend a guide to give some background information and theories , it could otherwise be a bit of a dull experience. The we took a combined tour of ,the jars , a visit to a Hmong village, a little tour of Moung khourn, and a sombre visit to That Piu.

We visited the 3 Jar sites and really enjoyed the day. Tours from Phonsavan are quite expensive by Lao standards and there seems to be some sort of arrangement that tuk tuks will only go as far as Site 1, you have to go by mini van to the other sites. This area has lots of evidence of the sustained... More
