You best take public bus to this place. Just take bus direction Tactic or Guatemala for 4 Q only - There is one at least every half hour. Solid shoes and a rain coat are indispensable as this biotopo is in a mountainous rainforest

We were very excited about the visit to the Biotopo and hoped to spot a Quetzal. But spotting Quetzals are as rare as winning a lottery! This is something that we learnt after going there. We chose to walk the shorter loop of 2 miles. It is a nice hike through the preserved forest area, many ferns dominate the landscape,... More

We visited this park from Coban. From there we took a bus from the terminal of Transportes Monja Blanca. For Q10, - per person they wil drop you off near the entrance of the park. The ride will take up to 1:15 h. The park itself is well maintained, the trails are kept in good condition. Spotting wildlife is always... More

Everyone gets here to try to see some Quetzales, but they are shy and if you don´t come early at dawn you´ll wont see one. But the trail is fantastic!! You get to be in a true jungle forest with impressive tress and animals. Its a great place to disconnect for everything and its a must if your around Coban.

There is nothing like the biotopo. You can hear the quetzales singing and you are literally in a forest full of wildlife and gorgeous waterfalls. There are a lot of stairs so be prepared to hike but there is a long hike and a short hike. If you can do it I would recommend the long hike only because it... More

This place has an amazing forest, and if you go to the longest trial, you can have one of the most amazing views. It's quite tiring but with it.

Very nice and brief hike on well maintained trails surrounded by the cloudy forest. Went on the month of June, so it had been raining and everything looked green, with lots of ferns and epiphytes. Hoped to see some orchids, but they were not in bloom. Besides that, it's easy to spot a lot of springs and small waterfalls on... More

Well worth the dawdle around the rainforest. Small waterfalls, streams, rainforest and all it entails. After a half hour here all your worries melt away and the wonders of nature take you over. Wonders such as finding my first black mushroom, which is inedible (I asked) and the smallest orchid on earth. Lizards dart around everywhere as you are accompanied... More

We stopped by the biotopo after staying the night at the hotel next door (los Ranchitos). At the hotel that morning we saw 2 quetzals at 6am when they are supposedly most active. Unfortunately the biotopo doesn't open until 7am and although we didn't ask, there didn't seem to be any guides in case you were there to see a... More

This is a lovely place for a hike. You most likely won't see any quetzals as they are very endangered and elusive. Apparently the best time to see them is at dawn, when the reserve is closed (open at 9 I think). The second best time is sunset, when we went, and we didn't see any although we did hear... More
