This is a nice half hour up, half hour down walk that will get your heart rate up! Quite steep in places but a great 360 degree view from the top and worth the walk to see Wanaka township, the lake, surrounding districts and the mountains. Very pleasant early in the morning or late in the afternoon during the summer... More

Missing out on a heli flight to the top of Mt Roy, my husband and I opted for a short trek up Mt Iron. Both being reasonably fit, we powered up the mountain only stopping to really enjoy the views. Once at the top you get a good 360 view of Wanaka (being biased, the view over the lake is... More

The hike is close to town and is very short so it was ideal for us as a morning activity before we had to drive to Queenstown. Not a strenuous hike. The views of the lake and the town from the top are fantastic. Definitely worth the time!

Great short walk, although steep in places, opens up into great views of Lake Wanaka, a must visit location. While walk takes 90 minutes around the loop.

Some lovely views along the walk but not the best I've seen while in new Zealand. It was close to where we were staying so worthwhile for us.

Suggest to make a 30 minutes early start before sunrise. The mountain is not too high but some section is reasonably steep walk which need staminas and strength to overcome. Of cause you can take your own pace to get to top but don't miss the beautiful sunrise. Seeing the 1st sun shine over the Wanaka town with all the... More

This is a nice hike in Wanaka. I rated it as average as New Zealand has so many great hikes. However, if in Wanaka and looking for a convenient hour and a half hike I would recommend this one.

This walk is fine for most, very accessible by car, more than one spot to stop. Bathrooms nearby. Nice place at the top / peak, plenty of room, you won't get crowded out. Check it out, take some lunch up there. Definitely recommend taking the loop track back so that you see right around the mountain. You won't regret going... More

A steep walk up a hill is always an exhausting prospect for a lazy person like me, however it was well worth the walk up Mt Iron. Beautiful views of Wanaka and the surrounding mountains and countryside.

As per websites, it may be called Mount Iron but it is not a mountain... to me, it might as well be one. The tracks are clear and distinct, but a steep climb to the top. However, a must-do, as a splendid view greets you close to and when you are at the top.
