Myself and two friends had booked this well in advance but due to a friend's unexpected gym injury we had to wait until the very end of the season to get to Queenstown to give him time to recover. So it was definitely spring skiing. Due to snow conditions we took off from the Wanaka base of Southern Lakes Heliski.... More

I've been to New Zealand skiing a few times, but this was by far the best day out in the mountains. The pre-trip organisation was excellent and the team at the shop were very helpful with updates and day selection. Once the day began, it was non-stop fun in fresh snow with blue sky above. The guides were extremely professional,... More

We are good skiers and were asked before booking, what our level of skiing was, but the staff-girl at the shop most probably didn't believe us because we were put in a group with clients that didn't have a lot of experience, and had to wait a lot for them. Fortunately the groups were re-arranged in the afternoon.

Thanks for the review. Behind the scenes we have people working on logistics and they are doing their best to try and make the groups work together. Sometimes its hard to put all the pieces of the puzzle together to make them work so we are very sorry that you didn't start your day with a group that was of... More

This is the second time I have traveled with Southern Lakes Heli Ski and I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable experiences while I was in New Zealand! The staff are amazing and views are even better!

Thanks for the response. Thats one thing about NZ our views are pretty spectacular from every angle, especially in the Southern Lakes region. Its one of the advantages of being able to heliski in alpine terrain, we get spoilt for scenery. Glad you enjoyed yourself and we will see you back again next time. More

The skill of the pilot was incredible. Pin point landings on top of craggy mountains. I felt completely safe despite the amazing adrenaline packed dive he pulled as we fly over a cliff. That guy was super talented and totally in control of the chopper. The guide was friendly and attentive and gave me great confidence. Felt like I was... More

Thanks so much for the review! We try to employ the best pilots and guides in the business. We choose specific pilots for heliskiing as they need to be able to land in some complicated spots to get us into the good heliski lines. We have guides who have become leaders in striving to better the heliski industry in NZ... More

It finally happened... After multiple attempts over the years and cancellations due to weather conditions, it finally happened and it didn't disappoint and was worth the wait! 30 cms of fresh powder was waiting for us on a stunning sunny day! Really appreciated the guides recommendation for me to leave my older skis behind (even though I have experience with... More

Thanks for the review and the helpful tips on how to use the go pro. We have to be so careful with devices that interfere with the avalanche beacons as they are life savers. Glad you got that 30cms you lucky guy!! Better you come back next year and get a bit more.... More

Thanks for the review Daniel. We have been experiencing warmer temperatures then normal which have caused the snow to melt freeze making the mornings snow more solid and then softening as the day goes on. To try and work with nature on this we have been starting our trips later in the morning to make the most of the softening... More

I experienced wonderful heliski by excellent guides showing us nice slopes even there are difficult mixture of sping snow and hard snow. They also provided nice lunch on the snow.

Thanks for the review. The guides do their best to get the nicest snow on the day. Spring can always be a bit harder to evaluate when the snow will release but when it does the guides will get it! Glad you enjoyed the day. More

Helicopters are definitely the best way to travel and especially to get the good snow. (even if they are expensive to run) We love the fact we can deep into the heart of the Southern Alps and share an adventure with people like yourself!! See you back again next year! More
