Recommended as a quick pit-stop by our driver-guide and I'm glad we listened to him. Basically highlight of the place are the many carps / koi swimming in drains. That in Tsuwano, Shimane was more attractive and elegant away from shopping arcade. Though I visited Tsuwano long time ago so I may not be able to compare old Tsuwano with current Shimabara.

We traveled to Shimabara for a simple reason: we wanted to take a different path to travel Nagasaki and Kumamoto. And we did a right choice. Shimabara is a city of swimming carp.
