We had a short excursion in the cellars with some video information and a tasting afterwards. All in all an interesting experience.

We are staying near Thuir and as it was raining today we thought we would visit the Caves. It was interesting to see the huge barrels of wine plus hear the story of the brothers who started the business, told in a series of short films and life-size talking holograms. Umbrellas were suppied (and needed) in the walk to the... More

We visited the winery by coach. It is very interesting to see the early history of such a place, we had audio guides and as we travelled within the site, many facts were presented including posters and video displays. Some of the oak vats were huge, one could hold one million litres. The tour finished by sampling the wine, excellent.... More

Very interesting and well organised, audio guides make it easy for everyone to follow. Wine tasting at the end was a bonus. Really enjoyed it. Can be done before or after seeing Castelnou as nearby.

Byrrh (prounounced beer) is an old drink but the tour is given by holograms as you go round. The large oak barrel is thelargest in the world at 1,000,200 litres. The railway station was designed by Gustaf Eiffel (of the tower fame). You also get to taste samples at the end

You’re given audio guide in English or whatever and you are sent to watch long galleries and very strange videos every 10m. Nice visit for those who like taking photos, but that’s all. You cannot ask questions because they speak just French, even the guides.

There is not a huge amount to see on this tour, but the story of the Violet Brothers is a good one and well worth the telling. On our particular tour the majority of visitors were English speaking. What a pleasant surprise to find they supply printed Guides and Audio Guides in English. Added to this the gentleman showing us... More

If you are in the area this place is well worth a visit. Of course, you need to have a little interest in wine and how it is produced. You are guided around the production plant and given lots of interesting info about this drink. Amazing how this industry made Thuir into a prosperous city. Even my youngest son of... More

This was featured on the itinerary of a week-long guided tour and I have to ask why. The presentations were well executed and the vats are certainly very big but you would have to be very interested in big vats to find this tour worth the long journey we made to get there. We were offered glasses of the product... More

Estab lished more than a century ago this is the home of the famous Byrrh aperitif and others such as Dubonnet. The Violet brothers created their elixir in 1866. A fascinating discovery in the heart of Thuir. Guided tours are available followed by a tasting to complete the experience.
