Nice archaeological site near Palafruguell-Palamos and the valley of the river Aro, and the region of Emporda; The site was a greco-roman ancient town located in Emporda, in the nord of Catalogne; The ruins are widespread on a hill; the walk through the ruins is amazing, many ancient columns, big stones, nice trees; there are also a small museum to... I'll be the first to admit it, I'm a huge history nerd. When I heard that there were both Greek AND Roman ruins in L'Escala, I knew this was a must-see. Empuries is unique because, at one point, the Greeks and the Romans coexisted here. The audio guide provides a wealth of knowledge and should absolutely not be skipped. The... More

The visit should start with watching the interpretive film. It is an outstanding example of telling a difficult story well and in an interesting fashion. The excavations are well marked and signed. The Greek and Roman together with the Iberian influences are clearly explained and are impressive to see. A guide is a plus.

What a setting blue skys and a stunning backdrop of the Med Sea. We had a amazing time.So reasonable to go in worked out at 4e each with a headset tour. You start with the Greeks and move up to the Roman site. We were there for well over 3.5 hrs and honestly didnt see everything. Its a lot to take... More

The ruins were a bit tricky to find but once there, it's really an impressive place. We happened to go on a Tuesday when there's the added benefit of free entry. It's not expensive anyway and the audio tour is included. There are not many informative signs so the audio is essential and they have a child's version which even... More

We stopped here on our hike from L'Escala to San Pere Pescador for about 3 hours. Unfortunately I drive my wife nuts as I love to poke thru historical sites and listen to the whole audio tour and read as many descriptions as possible. I found this audio tour to be excellent with lots of insights on the ruins and... More

The historical significance of this ancient city alone is worth the visit, but the fact that it has both Greek and Roman ruins sitting next to each other is a real treat for history buffs. It also really helps understand the transition of cultures and people in the region. The audioguide is a must, and give yourself several hours. This... More

The views of this ancient towns are beautiful, not only that but he audio guide which takes you round is only €4 and a bargain I'd say as you receive 1 and a half hours of commentary taking you through the Ancient Greek and roman settlement. Definitely worth going to see
