Came to Penang on holiday and stayed at Batu Ferringhi. While it was pretty crowded over the weekend, there was always a spot to put your things down and join in the fun on playing on the sand or jumping into the sea - the water was very warm and lovely. There is plenty of paid water sport activities to do however we did not participate in any of them and just enjoyed the sun and surf. Most pleasant and the beach was the best part of the holiday. Would like to come back and spend more days at Batu Ferringhi Beach.

Too crowded on weekends. The sea activity operators can be quite annoying when they tried to sell their services.

Great place to chill yourself. It’s a favourable spot for family gathering, water sports, horse riding and many more. The only thing that I don’t really satisfied with is the cleanliness of the beach.
Have a visit!

I love the view of the beach. It makes you calm and relax. There's a food stalls along the beach, so that you can enjoy the while eating some food. There's also a few beach activities offered with different prices but please make sure you're taking high safety measurement.

The beach was averagely clean and it was super suitable for group of friends to visit. There was no entrance fee imposed.

Great sandy beach and there's always lots of things to do. Horse riding early in the morning or late evening. Water sports like banana boat, jet ski, para sail or if you want more sedate a boat ride too. Or simply laze in the sun for a tan.

We were a family of 4 (two daughters 18 yrs and 10 yrs). We went to spend an evening at this beach. We reached around 6.30 pm and moved out of there by around 8 pm. The beach was very quiet during this time. We just went there and spent sometime clicking pictures and sitting there on the pier and enjoying the lovely sea breeze.

What I observed are the following things:

- The beach has water sports activities but looked very subdued currently maybe because of the pandemic
- The public beach site is not so well developed. What I mean to say is that the approach road is very narrow and there are no well appointed parking spaces. We went a little away from the main beach area and parked in an abandoned land near the beach. So, looked a little disorganized.
- The pier in the evening is nice if there is a breeze. Both me and my wife, we sat there on one of the stone stools and enjoyed the lovely breeze for almost an hour.
- The beach itself is clean. Not much of plastic and garbage. Thank god.
- But we found the water not so clean to go and swim. We saw it was muddy. Maybe just like all west coast beaches in Malaysia which are mostly affected by the shipping lines. So, oily and muddy.
- The waves were not so big and rough. So, good for swimming but only if the water was clean which it is not.

So, overall an average experience for us. We had quite a lot of expectation. In fact, when we planned the trip to Penang we thought of the place only because it has sea beaches. But, then before going there and after reading the reviews of this beach on TA, it was quite well evident to me that we will not be able to go into the water. This area is full of big hotels like Park Royal, Shangrila, etc. But, then what is the point of going to an expensive hotel when you cant even take a dip in the sea!

For your information, I did go into the water but on a different beach in Penang. This beach was at Tanjong Bungah area, next to TESCO. There I found the water to be cleaner and I could take a few dips in the water. But, here in Batu Ferringhi beach, swimming is not advisable.

Penang itself is a beautiful city and we enjoyed our 3 nights stay here immensely. It is a very unique city. It has beaches, mountains and also city life. It has clean air, clean roads and the city itself is very well planned and clean. It has some great malls and many great condos to stay in. Lovely places to eat. Something about this city is really appealing. We would love to come back again and again. In fact, my wife wants to settle down here. We also found out that Penang is probably one of the best places in the world to retire in. During our stay here, we also visited The Habitat at Penang Hill (please see my separate review of this place) which was a great experience. We had meals in Autie Gaik Lean's, Gustoso, David Brown's Terrace Restaurant at Penang Hill and then Healy Mac's Penang. I have written reviews for all these places. Do check them out to get a good idea about Penang. I have shared as much information as possible. One evening we also went to Georgetown and just walked around for half an hour or so and enjoyed the narrow roads with lovely pubs, eateries and shops. And one day we went for this lovely cycling trip in Balik Pulau area of Penang which was the countryside. This experience was simply awesome. Look out for the Chillax Paddy Fields + Sunset Biking tour on Airbnb with Mr Goh. Oh, this was awesome. It was a 4 hour cycling experience in the paddy fields filled countryside of Penang culminating with dinner (you can read my detailed review of this tour on Airbnb too). Penang is beautiful!!

The beach is nothing like redang or perhentian, it is more like Port Dickson. But in terms of cleanliness, it is getting better. Good place for family hangout
