- DanWeeSingapore, Singapore376 contributionsLovely SunsetWe decided to spend a couple of hours watching the sun go down and were met with men offering touristy things to do like paragliding, jet skis, banana boating, and hourse riding. no peace till sunset, then the fireworks began..literally. bangs and sparks flew as people set them off. it was a sight to behold, fireworks going off 10metres from your face. we were rewarded with a breathtaking sunset with the red and orange hues dancing on the clouds above. nice..Visited March 2020Travelled with friendsWritten 10 March 2020
- g00djudge89 contributionsNice but noisyWe were there in the quiet season and the beach was mostly empty except for an hour or so before sunset. However, it's divided into about 7 zones (for the various boat / jetski etc. hire companies) and zone B, closest to our hotel, was constantly full of noise and fumes. Walk down the beach for a few minutes to (mostly) get away from them.Visited January 2020Written 26 January 2020
- Alnoor SEdmonton, Canada169 contributionsBatu Ferringhi Beach- Penang, MalaysiaThe beach is relatively clean for walking along the Shangrila hotels and towards Holiday Inn. However, the slope is higher and the sand coarse and and not firm. As such your feet sink into the sand an inch or two. Alongside the water, running lightly was also possible but hard on the plantar fascia. Swimming was discouraged at our time due to Jelly Fish in the water. Hawker on the beach were present but did not get a chance to eat there as Holiday Inn had amazing Indian food and very reasonably priced!Visited February 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 February 2020

Had a short morning visit before drop off to the airport. Nice beach, many water activities like banana boat and others. Shops on both ways to the beach. They sell souvenirs, fridge magnets, gifts and statues. Few restaurants opened for breakfast.
I think late afternoon this area will by highly crowded.

Grey sand, beach washed away - filthy smelly creek prevents you from walking the length of the beach. Not sure why anyone would stay here. The hotels pulling in the big money should be required to contribute to the recovery of a very sad little beach and town.

We were fortunate to be staying at the Bayview Resort which backs directly onto the beach. It was a very lovely place for a sunset walk and you can certainly get some great photos over the bay from the end of the concrete pier in the middle of the beach.

Not the greatest beach in Malaysia, and if you’ve been to Thailand and Vietnam, expectations for beaches are high in SE Asia and this one just doesn’t reach the heights. There is a little bit of rubbish on the beach and washing up on shore, and there are a few jellyfish knocking round too. Not many shops and stalls nearby. That being said, the sand is pretty decent and there is also water sports available. There was a huge digger on the beach and some construction work being done a bit further down, so a little bit of an eyesore. Overall, average beach. Oh, and you have to pay for the toilet.

This is a sad, tired and dejected place compared to a few years back. My guess is covid has decimated much of it with boarded up hotels, former restaurants that look like earthquake zones, few eating options and the once vibrant street market a shadow of what it used to be.
It’s terrible and you become a captive of the hotel with their high prices and lack of variation. Maybe Phuket has captured much of this market as its recovery seems to have been much more rapid than poor old Penang.

Sand and sea remain the same with muddy waters though European charter flights seem to have diminished as the whole formerly luxury resort area has long ago lost it's charm. Some basic budget eateries can be found serving locals who even camp out with tents on the beach as it is public all along. I am staying at Tanjung Bungah with a much nicer beach not listed correctly on this site.

For those not aware the beaches in Penang are not the clear blue waters with white sands. They are fine for swimming with the water temperature on the warmer side. Some people have mentioned the beach may be prone to jelly fish although I've never encountered this. Maybe its seasonal? Perhaps ask a local.
The beach stretches for approx 2kms and is nice as its also near drinks palces and food.

If you are looking for some quiet time during the weekend or the holidays, forget it! There is a lot (and I mean a lot) of noise from all the so called « water sports » and when local children are around with their families… well, they scream all right.
So, if you are in need of some quiet time by the beach, it’s not the place at all, at least during the weekends or some holidays.
However, despite the constant noise, the surroundings are at least nice and reasonably clean.

Berapa jam perjalanan ke pantai Batu Ferringhi dari kota Penang naik bis Rapid penang tks

Like most Asian destinations, Penang has traffic jams, it depends on the time of day and how bad they are.
Generally speaking a bus from Georgetown, takes about forty minutes. Where as a taxi can be 25 to 35 minutes. We prefer the bus, as we like to talk to the locals and view the scenery. The bus terminal is under the Komtar Building( tall round building), however we normally catch the bus further up Penang road, so as to ensure we get a seat. Buses a very full when schools get out.

What’s the best way to go to Batu Ferringhi beach and the best part to visit? So confused how to get there and are there toilets near by or can we get to part of the beach near rasa sayang without going through their lobby so that we can use their toilets as have three young children. Thanks

There are several places to walk thru to the beach. Down the georgetown end there is a walk way with several shops.
Further into town there are some side streets that allow access.
As for toilets, there are several places, the top walkway has a toilet block on the main road, toilets at the service station, maccas, Kentucky Fried. Hope this helps.

Were there changing stations/toilets at the beach?
Honestly, didn't take much notice, but I don't think there are any on the beach.

1. Ke Batu Feringgi sebaiknya menginap atau cukup one day tour?
2. Jika dari Gurney area atau Penang Airport ada public transport yang langsung ke Pantai Batu Feringgi? Atau lebih baik dengan taksi online? Berapa kira - kira biayanya dari kedua tempat tersebut?
3. Jika dari Georgetown area naik bis nomor brapa? dari KOMTAR kah?

may I'm know the horse ride is near where? and how much need to paid?
Steve D
Adelaide, Australia20 contributions
The horse riding is restricted to the southern end of the beach. The same people who run the water sports activities also operate the horse riding.
I don't know what the cost is, but think it would be reasonably priced.
Negotiate the price with the operator before riding.

I wanted to know whether Anthony and Sarah had given up the bar to open a massage and reflexology business on the same site. My wife and I exchanged cards with them over the years but have lost touch, it would be nice to hear from them again
