We were staying in Georgetown and decided to spend Christmas Day on the beach in Batu Ferringhi. We were actually advised against it but didn’t have any better ideas and the reviews seemed ok. Firstly the Grab taxi dropped us off with a ‘friend’ who tried to sell us outrageously expensive water sports. This is a common scam so be wary of this. Christmas Day was a public holiday so we were expecting it to be busy. What we hadn’t expected was for it to be so horribly overdeveloped. The beach is noisy and full of jet skis. There is a tiny cordoned off area, presumably for swimming. The coast is lined with really ugly high rise hotels. The night market was nothing special. It seemed very sad to me because you could see that once upon a time, it must have been a very beautiful beach.

Well if I was going to compare Bali to Penang, I'd say Bali wins. However, a different place all together so don't compare. The staff and people at the hotel were very friendly, helpful and went out of their way to help where needed. We landed late and at the start of the Chinese New year celebrations so as you expect a little stressful. Initial room was not up to standard but this was resolved quickly. The facilities were very good, more suited to families although you could escape the kids if needed. The one disappointed experience was the beach, in a word poor, broken glass, plastic bottles, brown water and not very inviting. That said Bora Bora bar was a good spot to see the sun setting between the hills. I'd again give Hard Rock Penang 4.5. The live music in the Cafe was one of the best I've heard, Electra Hex get the 👍. As mentioned previously the Spa is definitely worth a visit for the all over massage from Rosemary. Any, hope this helps you make a decision.

Built some 30 years ago as a secluded heaven for Western tourists the narrow strip of land with resorts by the public beach doesn't thrill me. The water is muddy as everywhere on Penang, the pathetic night market is the only entertainment besides beach bars. The high end hotels are expensive considering their location in a tourist ghetto with little contact of daily local life.

Came to Penang on holiday and stayed at Batu Ferringhi. While it was pretty crowded over the weekend, there was always a spot to put your things down and join in the fun on playing on the sand or jumping into the sea - the water was very warm and lovely. There is plenty of paid water sport activities to do however we did not participate in any of them and just enjoyed the sun and surf. Most pleasant and the beach was the best part of the holiday. Would like to come back and spend more days at Batu Ferringhi Beach.

Beautiful beaches with lots of cute little markets. Ranging from clothing, food and massages. I was lucky enough to get a massage from Julie while lying on the beach. My husband took the opportunity to go Jet skiing. But you can also choose a range of other water activities from the vendors on the beach. The prices do not vary much from Thailand, which I thought was still reasonable.
Getting to the beach we took the public bus from Komtar using the 101 or 102 bus. A definite must visit

I wouldnt go back to Batu ferringhi. Basically its just food places, and night market. Plus couple of hotels. But nothing else...as for bars or hangouts to just sit with a drink and see the world go by. Only place was Bora bora. But the toilets there was the worste ever just a hole....with hose. No paper obviously. Batu ferringhi is so dated. Stay in Georgetown instead. Beach- what beach? there is no beach as such, as u cant go to the sea- jellifish/ dirty....hard sand thats sinks - to walk on. Only place to swim is hotel pool. I am sure there is other places in the world where you can swim and go for food and wash your hands!! Not here

The beach is not clean, too many water sports such as parasailing, ski, banana boat and etc. Although they have barricaded a safety zone for swimming but it still doesn’t feel safe as boat and ski running pass with the loud sound of engine. The water is also murky which you don’t feel like going in to swim. Best to just stay at the beach to enjoy the sound of the wave and the sunset is beautiful.

An unspoiled lengthy beach. Virtually no one swims in the sea. I understand Malaysians are not big on swimming and that in fact most can't. Forgive me if this is incorrect but this came from a Malaysian local. That may account for their absence from the water. Tourists are no doubt deterred by the 'Beware of Jelly Fish' signs. I have no idea of the strength of the problem but I can think of no other reason to account for the almost total absence of bathers. I risked it and swam on two occasions. On both I could see a great distance in both directions and could see no one else venturing in. I emerged unscathed. Perhaps more luck than judgement. If you do choose to go in beware jet skis that tear up and down the water at great speed and no too far off the beach. Our hotel had a roped off area to keep them away and thus safe for those daring enough to go for it.

Sand and sea remain the same with muddy waters though European charter flights seem to have diminished as the whole formerly luxury resort area has long ago lost it's charm. Some basic budget eateries can be found serving locals who even camp out with tents on the beach as it is public all along. I am staying at Tanjung Bungah with a much nicer beach not listed correctly on this site.

Extremely hot at noon, but beautiful view assured. Nothing much to do here except enjoying sea breeze and watching people doing water activities. Strolling around with family at sunset really help me ease my stress. I'm gonna miss this moment a lot.

Berapa jam perjalanan ke pantai Batu Ferringhi dari kota Penang naik bis Rapid penang tks
Written 19 September 2019
Like most Asian destinations, Penang has traffic jams, it depends on the time of day and how bad they are.
Generally speaking a bus from Georgetown, takes about forty minutes. Where as a taxi can be 25 to 35 minutes. We prefer the bus, as we like to talk to the locals and view the scenery. The bus terminal is under the Komtar Building( tall round building), however we normally catch the bus further up Penang road, so as to ensure we get a seat. Buses a very full when schools get out.

What’s the best way to go to Batu Ferringhi beach and the best part to visit? So confused how to get there and are there toilets near by or can we get to part of the beach near rasa sayang without going through their lobby so that we can use their toilets as have three young children. Thanks
Written 18 August 2019
There are several places to walk thru to the beach. Down the georgetown end there is a walk way with several shops.
Further into town there are some side streets that allow access.
As for toilets, there are several places, the top walkway has a toilet block on the main road, toilets at the service station, maccas, Kentucky Fried. Hope this helps.

1. Ke Batu Feringgi sebaiknya menginap atau cukup one day tour?
2. Jika dari Gurney area atau Penang Airport ada public transport yang langsung ke Pantai Batu Feringgi? Atau lebih baik dengan taksi online? Berapa kira - kira biayanya dari kedua tempat tersebut?
3. Jika dari Georgetown area naik bis nomor brapa? dari KOMTAR kah?

may I'm know the horse ride is near where? and how much need to paid?
Written 22 June 2017
The horse riding is restricted to the southern end of the beach. The same people who run the water sports activities also operate the horse riding.
I don't know what the cost is, but think it would be reasonably priced.
Negotiate the price with the operator before riding.

I wanted to know whether Anthony and Sarah had given up the bar to open a massage and reflexology business on the same site. My wife and I exchanged cards with them over the years but have lost touch, it would be nice to hear from them again
Written 24 April 2017
The bar is not there anymore I think Sarah went back to Mauritius
