I came to Rochester for the Sweep festival and I visited the cathedral. It is an imposing building close to Rochester castle with an interesting history and many wonderful features. I particularly liked the altar, the stained glass windows, the wall plaque to the Royal Engineers ,the south quire transept door which was elaborately carved and the floor tiles of... More

En route to Canterbury we decided to stop for lunch in Rochester and popped into the Cathedral which is the second oldest in England! It's free to enter and we expected to spend half and hour having a quick look around but found that, in the crypt, there was an exhibition about and including the Textus Roffensis, a medieval book... Not one of the great cathedrals of England such as Durham and Lincoln, but well worth a visit if you are in the Medway area. For me a highlight of my visit was finding a memorial to Lt. Chard VC of Rouke's Drift fame, which was featured in the film Zulu.

This attraction was very welcoming by knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff with a genuine passion for the building and it's history. The recently revelaed crypt was set out more for hire and, as a visually impaired person, I found the lighting overpowering. But the rest of the cathedral as joy to visit and is well worth a visit. We weren't asked... More

Very lovely cathedral. We'd been to Canterbury earlier however the fact you don't need to pay to enter, the lovely architecture and cafe made this a more enjoyable visit for me. Definitely worth a visit.

This ancient building is a must see in the City and does not charge for entry - which is nice. Be sure to visit the crypt where a document older than the Magna Carta is displayed - an ancient "bill of rights " for the people of Rochester.
