The Falls of Shin is such a pleasing place to relax and watch salmon leaping from the dynamic waterfall. The Falls of Shin are spectacular in their own right, but the sight of leaping salmon makes them even more special and something not to be missed. Falls of Shin is recognised as being one of the best places worldwide to watch leaping Atlantic Salmon. The fish can be seen anytime between May and November, with the late summer months making this almost guaranteed. Following a fire which saw the former building burn to the ground, the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, on behalf of the community were successful with a Stage 1 BIG Lottery application and were invited to make a Stage 2 funding application. The design concept of the building, created by CH Architecture, is loosely based on the image of a fish and is made up of a head, body and tail. Each part forms a distinctive function. We are proud to have a 4* rating on TripAdvisor and another 4* with the Visit Scotland Rating Scheme. Please feel free to leave your own visitor comments! The centre will feature a 60 seat cosy café, a gift shop with local produce stocked, an exhibition and interpretation area, a children’s play area along with an events plaza. This will all fit into the surroundings of the on-site forest and of course the leaping salmon.

OK the visitor centre seems very good but we were here for the nature. The falls are pretty underwhelming with much better ones at Rogie. Didn't see any leaping salmon but then we're not for standing around for hours on the off chance. Midges abound...More

The salmon showed themselves countless times in the 5-10 mins that we viewed them. The woodland walk was a nice climb with a few surprising games within the forest along the way which my kids (& me!) played. Just a pity that the top end...More

Very, very midgy. Not a bad falls, cool with the salmon leaping, and that was in August. It could be amazing in the salmon season. Could do with some of the trees cutting back a bit for a better view.

So nice to see the restoration of this lovely spot. The new tourist attraction/ cafe was clean, interesting and the staff were great. Food was delicious. Well done to everyone involved with making this ris from the ashes of the previous cafe.

We visited the falls when staying in Lairg. The visitor centre part is nice with boards explaining the site and there is a park for the kids. Walking down to the falls is straight forward and the observation part is in a good spot. We...More

Really amazing to see quite a few salmon leaping up the falls and some very large dish swimming through. Cafe food was superb, service great.

I am usually lucky any time I am there. The summer months are best but be patient and prepared to spend at least half an hour. Good luck.
