The Isla de la Plata is located 50 km from the coast of Puerto López, province of Manabí, Ecuador. It is one of the greatest attractions of the Machalilla National Park. Its fame goes back many years, and its main characteristic is the diversity of birds that inhabit the place. It is known as the Galapagos Island of the poor.... More

This is known as the poor man's Galapagos. I can see why as you can see a number of the things that you can see on the Galapagos. Having been to both, Isla de la Planta is worth going to, it is a lovely opportunity to see the wildlife and natural beauty much nearer to the mainland. We were on... More

We took this tour not exactly knowing what to expect. I hr boat ride from Puerto Lopez. Can get a bit choppy so FYI if prone to sea sickness. Decent size boat and very safe. 3 different hikes offered on the island. Our group opted for the intermediate hike. Took approx 2 hrs? Was surprised by all the birds we... More

The boat ride was slightly uncomfortable but worth it as we got to see different groups of humpback wales. It was spectacular beyond belief and a real humbling moment in life. The Island was lovely but don't expect to see much wildlife. We saw turtles from the boat but the island only has the blue footed boobies. It was a... More

Don't waste your money by advance booking! We got tickets in Puerto Lopez the night before for $40 each. Tour includes Whale watching in season June through September. We saw lots of them in late September. Many males breaching in displays to court females. The tour on the island is very interesting, but better if you understand Spanish as guides... More

I highly recommend to visit. In september, it wasnt hot at all and we saw lots of whales, bluefoot bobbies, fragatas and other animals/plants pointed out by our guide. I had a great experience with company Aventuras La Plata - as mentioned before, their boats are really much quicker that others. Even though we left with a little delay (which... More

We booked a day trip to Isla de la Plata using Rosita tours and the entire experience was wonderful. The price was great, the guides were very knowledgeable, and it was one of the highlights of our 3 week exploration of this gorgeous country. We saw so many whales en route to the island, had an informative tour of Isla... More

The island paths on the island are very nice. Maybe they are a little steep for some people. You can get really close to blue footed boobies here. I also saw the redbilled tropicbird, nazcarboobies and magnificant frigatebirds. But dont expect to see red footed boobies. The trail is closed to protect them and dont expect to see the albatross.... More

The Blue Footed Boobys are abundant and just delightful to look at on the island. The guides know where to go, what to look for, and are willing and able to tell you about the flora on the island, as well as the fauna. Worth every second of the hour-long boat ride out to the island (and the whales aren't... More
