Nice walk through this area. Little disappointed that the only trees with signage appear to be foreign imports. Would be nice to see the natives and their Māori names and uses! Track signage is good and clear though.

... and first for ours :-) . We went on one of the shorter walks and experienced nice views and good fresh air.

We were lucky enough to walk the Dog Stream Waterfall track. It was quite steep with paths zig-zagging up the slope, but the 2.5 hour return was fairly accurate, although we did it in less time. Such amazing scenery.

Used hired bikes to go on the easy rider path. Was quite a picturesque place and also allowed us to escape the heat as it has some high cover over the multiple paths within the Forest.

All you need is a $3 map of the mountain bike tracks the forest has to offer, all graded from easy to advanced and you are ready to go and enjoy the forest (providing you have a bike). Beware though, advanced means advanced, steep ascents and descents, narrow uneven paths, but the easy tracks are really suitable for all and... More

I love coming to Hanmer with the family. There is something for everyone! We come here regularly with the grandparents & our children. This is a picture I took this morning while running. There are so many great tracks for running, walking & biking.

Great scenic trail with enough challenges for the whole family but not too long if you are less bike fit. Handy to village bike hire.

Went on one of the short walks and it is just lovely! Good signage and information about the Forest history. Would be fun to hire a bike and ride the bike tracks. I'm a kiwi from Taranaki and found this beautiful South Island Beech Forest so unlike the native bush we have in the Taranaki area. Well worth a visit.

Lots of bird life, trees and creeks. We finally got out to have a walk after it was raining on and off all day and had a terrific one hour relatively easy walk. Just watch the north west mountains for the weather. If the rain clouds get over the top them, put your rain gear on.

Lovely easy ride through the forest on well signed track. Can choose to extend the ride and go around the township a bit. Found a wee animal park on our travels.
