If you are in the neighborhood on a rainy day, you might not want to miss this. It's fun when you don't know much about the tour so we won't reveal any details. If you are interested in Austrian and German History then this is a must see, even if the weather is good. If you are travelling from Salzburg,... More

What fun we had, only we expected more in the area of history. Most of the talk was canned in a continuous movie as we walked, which made no sense. We wanted to hear historical facts and expected our guide to tell us stories from the past. That part was boring. I remembered being there 50 years ago, when it... More

It was great to go underground to get a little history of how salt mining took place in Hallein and how important salt was/is to this region. Of course, the train ride was fun as were the salt slides! Woo-hoo! Couldn't help but think of all the salty jokes and sayings that we could think of. Great fun for all... More

Our family with elementary-age children had a great time on this tour. They loved the train rides and slides enough to ask if we could do it again. The tour guide spoke multiple languages, including English. The four videos didn't add much to our tour, but they weren't long.

The salt mine is a good 2 hour experience. Ideal for all ages. About 30 minutes in a cab from Salzburg. There is a cafe and gift shop. Really enjoyed it as did our 7 year old son. Travel between Austria and Germany whilst walking underground! And you get to wear white overalls that make you look a lot bigger... More

Visited while on a short break to Salzburg. Got train from Salzburg Hbf to Hallein (20 mins) and then 41 bus outside Hallein station up to Bad Durrnburg to the Salt Mines. Bus does some weird kind of circuit so check with driver when getting on that you are on the right leg up to the mines. If not he... More

We had a family trip to Salt mine. We didn't have any special expectations, so we were all pleasantly surprised. Interesting stories by the guide and videos along with train ride, boat ride and slide ride. We all agreed we would do it again.

A conducted tour of a very old salt mine. Get dressed in protective clothing for an open train ride deep into the mountain. Slide down wooden chutes and take a raft trip on an underground lake. Excellent commentary and video story throughout the experience in English. Quite a lot of walking on fairly rough ground and probably not suitable if... More

The tour starts with a train taking the group into the mine. The guide tell in German and English about the mine inside. You slide on a nice slide and go by boat inside. All suitable for children. The tour takes about 1 hour. At the end there is a nice not expensive restaurant.
