This lookout offers spectacular views over Laguna de Apoyo. There’s plenty of seats for you to sit and enjoy the view. There are some restaurants and souvenir stalls as well as vendors that walk around selling trinkets. There are horses that you can have a short horse ride on for a voluntary cost, which makes for a great photo opportunity.
Entry costs 20 cordobas per person. There are bathrooms and parking on site.

I came from Granada by bus, to Masaya or better go down on Rotonda des flores (15 cordobas), ans change to Amy bus going south, they all stop at Catarina (10 cordobas).
5-10 minutes walk in that charm town to the view point, clean and amazing! you can see the all crater, lake Nica, volcan Mombacho...
Nice place to read a book and spend the afternoon.
You can have a walk in many path going around the crater.
Perfect and cheap

At the end of the view point you can do a short circular trail for a small fee -- mango trail. It is a pleasant hike. Another trail runs to Pacaya, a former railway track.

We were staying in Granada and arranged for Danny's Tour to take us to this Lookout / Viewpoint before heading to Masaya Volcano for night viewing. There is a fee to park in the parking lot. From there it is a short walk to the viewpoint.
You can get a view of the lake and Masaya Volcano. If you are going to Masaya Volcano, it is worth a stop here. From Granada, it is about a 30 minute drive and then another 30 minutes to Masaya Volcano.
We came at around 4:15. We didn't stay for sunset since we wanted to see the sunset at Masaya Volcano.

The view is absolutely stunning, I have been here every time I am in the area. It is peaceful to just sit down and take it all in. My dad likes to hear the duo/musicians that are usually in the area. You can see another volcano off in the distance as well as Granada in another direction. Unfortunately the pictures attached to this review are from a cloudy day.
I give this place 5 stars because it is what it is meant to be - a tourist point. Beautiful views and a place to sit down to drink something as you take it in. Yes there are little stalls/stores that sell tourist stuff, but what tourist place doesn't? The stuff is cheaper than you would find at the Managua airport. The vendors were quite helpful, as we were asked to bring back certain items for family members, and instead of pushing us to buy other stuff, the vendors told us who might have what we were looking for.

Fantastic view across the water & on a sunny blue sky day ( which we had ) a really nice spot to wander about & take photos. Plenty of seating is provided should you want to sit as you take in the vista.
Nothing much else to do except look in some tacky little stalls & perhaps take a walk down the hill from the carpark at the top & explore the area a bit before getting back on your coach if you're on a day trip like we were.

At least on the day we went, it was extremely windy. The view from the overlook, though, is stunning. There is also a small marketplace, but we didn't do any shopping there. It is definitely worth it if you are in the area.

Definitely a must see if you are already close by. The lake sits in the top of an extinct volcano and especially during a sunny day the views are spectacular. If the watch point itself is too crowded you can go down and take a short path to the left.
The road to the view point is full of little shops that sell more or less original artisan pieces and most of the tourists will loose time strolling through those but if you are not into shopping just move ahead with your journey as there are better places to spend more time on in Nicaragua.

Hello - does anyone know if it is possible to hike to and/or from this mirador from laguna de apoyo? Do I need a guide or can I do it on my own? Thanks!!

Sure. It's not that far, and the GPS on your phone would make it easy to find it.
