Keys to the castle are held at the adjacent hotel. A local saying goes "as useful as an Hornberg shooting" and this is explained by a short DVD in the base of the castle. I didn't... read more

While visiting Germany we decided to splurge and spend a night in a castle. We didn't know it would be such a dark, weird place. The room was adequate although way overpriced, and both my boyfriend and I had the spine-tingling feeling it may have been haunted. The castle was in ruins, and had several torture chambers and jail cells.... More

We drove to the parking lot of the Schloss Hotel and parked for free. It was an easy stroll along well-maintained paths to the base of the tower. We did not climb to the top of the tower but did walk all the way around the site. Plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view. There is a nice... More

Its not so much of a castle now, its a school for the music arts, no real attractions or historical things to see, No entry except for the people who work or attend there. A really nice old structure if like myself enjoy things of the past

We stayed for a night before Christmas. We had a wonderful, exquisite dinner in the castle restaurant, nice choice of wines. We enjoyed the views over the town of Hornberg, see the trains go by at night. The breakfast is great. We were lucky to have a not too cold sunny day and explored the area a bit. This is... More

Small and manageable. Great views and interesting short film. The panaroma weg is fun but watch out for aggressive bees along the way. Did not stop at the beer garden at the Hotel Schloss but it looked good for a repas.

There is not much remaining, just a single tower. Stunning views over the local landscape. If you are are pasting take a look, but don't go too far

Keys to the castle are held at the adjacent hotel. A local saying goes "as useful as an Hornberg shooting" and this is explained by a short DVD in the base of the castle. I didn't count them but there are many steep steps leading to the top of the castle and, be warned, the lighting is not great. However... More

for 2 Euro you gain access to a 10th century castle ruin. They are doing restoration work in the ruins but you still get to do a lot or exploring. There is a hotel, restaurant and winery on the property so it is a lot of fun. The road up to the castel is one lane both directions. A little... More

This morning we climbed to the top of the tower of Hornberg Castle -- a partially ruined castle located on a steep outcrop with sweeping views of the Neckar river valley below. The original castle was built in the 11th century and was the stronghold of Baron von Berlichingen. Great views. Great setting. Great castle.

You can park at the castle for free and hike in the forest behind it (listen for the cuckoos) or along the top rim of the Neckar valley and enjoy the views.
