A very interesting place to visit if you enjoy the castles of bygone Medieval era. Much of the original structure has been left as it was - carved out of the rock on the top of the mountain. Some of the walkways are very uneven because of this and I would not recommend it for anyone who has balance issues... More

If you are booking a Viking River Cruise, please consider two important aspects: check the reviews to be sure you have a quiet stateroom, and include the Marksurg Castle in your plans! Be careful, the footing is not always good, but the view is fantastic and the tour is as interesting as can be. In 50 minutes it's possible to... More

The castle is very prominent on the top of a steep hill. The insides are very original and the rooms contain many artifacts. Our tour guide provided additional stories and details which added to the visit.

Marksburg Castle is very very cool and very old. The most important things you must know before you go is to wear good shoes for uneven ground, and to be ready to walk up a steep hill before you get to the castle. The castle is very busy and you may have a 20 minute wait for your turn. I... More

The tours of the castle was great. We saw how the people lived and in the castle. There were furnishings and gardens. We loved the guided tour.

Amazing tour of this castle dating back nearly 800 years. Spectacular views from the top but beware, it is a bit of a hike from the parking lot and touch climbing within the castle itself. Make sure that you are in good enough shape to make the climb before attempting this venue.

After a short bus ride from out ship, we arrived at Marksburg Castle. There is a bit of a hike to get to the castle so it is not for the faint of heart. There are stairs you can climb or walk the switchback road to the top. Unfortunately we were fogged in that day so there was absolutely no... More

One of a few castles not destroyed during any wars, and they have tried to keep it in its original condition as much as possible. There are quite a few exhibits on display of items from the early days. If you have trouble walking probably not a place to visit.

This castle is the only castle in Germany that has never been destroyed, and it has been incredibly well preserved. It provides a fascinating look into the daily castle life in medieval times. You get to see where the horses entered the castle, the castle gardens (complete with belladonna!), the enormous kitchen, the ladies' room, the great hall, the chapel,... More

This is the only castle in the Rhine valley that has never been destroyed. It was built with strong fortifications. We followed our guide to tour the citadel, the kitchens, and the ancient torture chamber with instruments used back then. Very interesting.
