Golden Sands Horse and Wagon Tours offers you the opportunity to travel in the footsteps of the early pioneers, down one of New Zealand’s most beautiful, unspoiled wild West Coast beaches. On the way, learn about our rich ‘Coast Road’ gold mining and pioneer heritage as if you were a part of it yourself. The pace is relaxed, with plenty of time for exploring. Activities include gem stone collecting, (Barrytown beach is the best jade hunting beach in NZ), making damper bread, boiling the billy over an open fire, wildlife spotting and photography.

Murphy, the draft horse, did a great job hauling us along the beach, and the dog Pearl had a blast running circles around us. A highlight was when Murphy broke into a trot with Pearl running back and forth in front of her for encouragement....More

Definitely the highlight of our visit to NZ. Sophie was fantastic! Nothing can compare to seeing the sunset whilst on the beach cooking bread over a camp fire and drinking tea . Thank you Sophie, Murphy and Pearl for an unforgettable experience

We recently enjoyed an afternoon with Sophie and Golden Sands Tours. We were also hosted by Murphy, a patient, canny Clydesdale who pulled us effortlessly across the sand and Pearl a black dog who endlessly ran point. The West Coast put on its best clothes...More
