Sparkling wine is one of my favorites and Quartz Reef did not disappoint. Loved their wines and came home with a delicious Pinot Gris in addition to their bubbly. Elaine was so lovely; she gave us a tour of the facility and talked about how they make their sparkling wine (very old school.) Highly recommmend!

While it may not be the palatial setting you might expect, we knew the wine was excellent, and we were so delighted to be warmly welcomed and given a fascinating and in-depth tour and description of the traditional sparkling wine making procedures still used at Quartz Reef.

The wines and the welcome from Elaine at Quartz Reefs humble cellar door are well worth the visit! Great wines across the board and incredible prices for the quality, especially considering the processes they go through to deliver traditional (champagne) style bubbles! The cellar door is on an industrial estate, not on a vineyard. Don't let this affect your decision,... More

We had a lovely visit to your cellar door. We enjoyed the time to chat with Elaine about the wines and the region. The wines are all delicious and were eagerly shared with friends that night. Visiting Quartz Reef is all about the whole experience.. Just perfect.

Located in an industrial park, Quartz Reef produces spectacular wines and their unassuming cellar door is worth a visit if you’re serious about Central Otago wines. The day we visited, owner and winemaker Rudi Bauer was on site, so we had an opportunity to learn how he draws as much character from the fruit sourced from different areas of the... More

Not a great place for a cellar door visit if you want to appraise the wines. We were served in fantastic large tasting glasses but unfortunately we were poured a thimble full. Not enough to smell or taste. I asked for a bit more in the glass and after a little hesitation, I was given more. Nevertheless, I knew the... More

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate your insight. In regards to your issue, a standard tasting pour is 60mls, which can look minimalist in a large glass, although a visitor will be tasting across 4 or 5 wines. Our Riedel Central Otago Glasses, though beautiful, can be quite deceiving. Even a standard pour (100 ml), can look deceptively small... More

When I came to Central Otago, there were only two places I really wanted to visit. Felton Road and this place. Quartz Reef in my opinion is the most under rated winery in Central Otago. They do phenomenal pinot noirs and great sparkling which I discovered only by visiting. They do everything in small batches so its very much quality... More

A lovely winery to visit not far from Rockburn Wines if Nic sends you here! The bubbly is just gorgeous and was recommended. We had some on our honeymoon a few years back, so bought bubbles and the beautiful Stolen Kiss Rose. Highly recommended and we were lucky enough to go behind the scenes and see the wine bottles just... More
