Do not go, unless you want to fund animal cruelty. There is an elephant chained and it can’t move and it is seemingly stressed and in agony. The visit made me sad.

Beautiful displays of Buddha. Spine thrilling exhibition of Buddha Hell. But TOO sad to see the poor chained elephant - not OK.

The temple itself is ok. It was quite sad seeing the chained elephant; apparently he is 22 and he has been chained for 12 years or so. I would recommend the Rock Temple instead.

Can only agree with others on this one. The people who run this must take such criticism on board. No justification for keeping this animal chained up like this. Shame.

We visited the temple on Poya day and were excited to explore the site among worshippers on a holy day. However, our visit was ruined when we saw an elephant chained up (both front and back), rocking back and forth in obvious distress, standing in...More

We didn't enjoy our visit here. The large buddha was quite impressive but there was elephant that was chained up in a really cruel way. It was not in line with Buddhist ideology in my opinion at all. He was chained on a front and...More
