Should not be compared to other cathedrals in the region

The advantage here is that you can enjoy amazing wall and ceiling paintings without the need for peace. Here another story is told and it is by no means uninteresting

I would say this was just an average duomo as in many other little Tuscan hill towns. The views from the alleyways set it apart from anywhere else. It was also interesting to see a school of budding young artists doing their best to draw it. We enjoyed the beautiful day.

The church itself is not as richly decorated as other in Florence or Siena. Still interesting. More interesting though is the story of the construction and repairs over the years. We first thought that some cracks in the wall were caused by earth quakes in the region, but not the case. The church was, unknowingly at the time, built on... More

What an amazing place. Well worth a visit. We bought a book about the marble floor as it was a great way to understand the history of the region

Elegant in its simplicity…serenely cool in the summer heat, wafting ghostly breezes in the dim light……alive with gentle memories of past times...

The Duomo of Pienza is an amazing piece of history. Visiting the main church is not enough to understand its role in the area, you have to get into the caves of the basement, where the original furniture of the Duomo is shown, together with masterpieces from the monks. The caves drilling down the earth contribute to understand the role... More

Unfortunately this was under repair and missed the best of the place. It was really cold as the winds were unrelenting during that day. Found the best local hand made leather shop nearby.

Pienza is my favorite small Tuscan village and the Duamo on the square is great both inside and outside..

The Duomo is among several striking buildings surrounding Piazza Pio II. There is a perfect harmonious shape to everything here. To one side of the small but beautiful square is the Duomo. The interior is well worth a look. The whole area is so picturesque. We roamed the narrow streets and visited some cheese shops. It is a quiet and... More

This cathedral was commission ed by Pope Pius ll and built in 1459. If you are looking for it, it is next to the town hall. The church is known as the Jewel of The Ideal City.
