Fantasy in Tuscany--San Gimigniano, Chianti & Montereggioni on horseback!
Sep 2013
My wife and I were invited to a September wedding in San Gimigniano and so we decided to spend a week in beautiful Tuscany But what to do for a week? We love horseback riding, so why not make that part of our vacation in Tuscany? We asked our agroturismo 'concierge' to help set it up. They introduced us to CamelotSports and Fabio Bartolini, its owner, who makes fantasies come true! Fabioi set up three different itineraries for us: the foothils of San Gimignano, the Chianti region, and Monteriggioni. Each one was spectacular and unique. We rode through vineyards, farms, tiny hamlets, hills, woods, streams, bridges and even roads used for midieval pilgrmmages. The terrain was breathtaking: rolling hils covered with vineyards, olive trees and crowned with fortified hilltop castles. Along the trails, we stopped for wild berries and grapes. And at the end of each day's ride, we arrived at an agritourismo or restaurant for a fabulous lunch, with amazing locally produced wines. Fabio Bartalini, the founder of Camelot, was the perfect guide and coordinator: He introduced us to outstanding itineraries and set us up with superb instructor/guides for each day's riding. In fact one of our riding guides competes in the famous Palio of Siena. He rode with us bareback and without a saddle--an unexpected bonus! And the logistics couldn't have been easier. Fabio picked us up each morning and drove us to our starting point, and returned us to our villa upon completion. He was a great source of local knowledge and recommended wonderful restaurants, including the excellent La Galleria in Poggibonsi--an extraordinary seafood and fish restaurant, which triumphs over the idea that fish and inland Tuscany don't go together. He also led us to attractions that we would have never known about, including Machiavelli's home. Thanks to Fabio, we had a true adventure that we will never forget. We definitely will call him again in the Fall of 2014, when the Tuscan countryside has turned colors and can go riding again, this time having lunch in the woods with homemade sausages grilled over a wood fire with fresh rosemary. My wife and I considered this trip experience as priceless, AND also it was an exceptional value. We enjoyed semi/private riding plus excellent food and wine plus daily pick-up/drop off (convenience without worring about getting lost or drinking wine at lunch), high-quality protective gear, all orchestrated by CamelotSports. We can't praise Fabio and his operation enough--he's generous, warm, friendly and professional. Just a great guy and the perfect choice to make your Tuscan fantasy on horseback a wonderful reality.

We had a great trip with Fabio and the team of Camelot Sports Events. We were a group of 14 pax from Denmark who was in Tuscany for a company team building. Through Camelot we booked trekking with a great guide, we booked transfers that were there on time or early, we booked a fantastic cooking class where we had dinner with the hosts and family afterwards, we booked wine tasting at Cesani wineyard one of the finest wineyards for Vernacio white wine Vernacio. Everything was A+ and we had a great trip. We are already planning our next trip. We canceled one person 2 days before and got a fair refund.

A Horse of a Different Color
Sep 2013 • Couples
A wedding in San Gimignano brought us back to Tuscany for a week late this summer, in close proximinity to the many beautiful hill towns we love--but have seen many times before. Rather than re-visit familiar territory, we decided to see Tuscany a different way: On horseback. Our villa recommended that we work with Camelot Sports, who coordinated three different itineraries for us: the foothils of San Gimignano, the Chianti region, and Monteriggioni. Each was spectacular and very different from one another. We went through vineyards, farms, tiny hamlets, hills, woods, streams, bridges, even midieval roads. We picked fresh wild berries and grapes along the way. The terrain before our eyes was spectacular, with fortified hilltop castles and fortresses beckoning us from every vantage point. To finish each morning, we enjoyed a glorious lunch with wine at a different agritourismo or local restaurant each day. Fabio Bartalini, the founder of Camelot, was a perfect coordinator: He identified outstanding itineraries, as well as excellent instructor/guides to lead our riding each day. He picked us up each morning and drove us to our starting point, and returned us to our villa upon completion. He was a wealth of local knowledge, too, recommending restaurants (including the excellent La Galleria in Poggibonsi), and attractions off-the-beaten-track we would have never known about. It was a true adventure in every sense, one that we will never forget, but certainly one that we hope to repeat! We will dream about returning one fall when the lush, green countryside has turned red and yellow, and we are promised a fireside lunch in the forest featuring homemade sausages on skewers grilled over wood, grapevine and fresh rosemary. Riding -- available for any level -- included equipment, even stylish vests that we got to keep. We consider our experience priceless, but would readily add that it represented exceptional value as well. The first day there was only one other couple with us, and the second and third day we were on our own with the guides. This kind of semi/private riding alone was worth the price, but when you factor in the pick-up/drop off (so convenient plus no worries about getting lost or drinking wine at lunch), high-quality protective gear and outstanding lunches with wine, this was truly worth every euro.
