Excellent dog beach
Aug 2020 • Couples
This park has 1.5 km of sand beach. Its shallow and warm. The park is fairly small and has good paddling and fishing options. The staff are friendly. There is no store but there is a motel up the road. The highway is right beside the park and has a railway crossing. The train has to use a whistle. We heard as early as 7:30 am and as late as 9:40. The dog beach is just as nice as the regular beach. There is hiking trail to a waterfall outside of the park just down the road. If you want to swim or paddle this is a great park if you can live with the train and highway noise.

Mixed review
Jul 2020
Mixed feelings about this one! Beautiful lake and beaches, some very good sites, but a very close and LOUD train a few times a day and every night! No train warning on the website like there is for Oastler Lake PP. Also, the lake is very heavily populated with cottages/houses and the lake is very removed from the campground. Loved the nearby A.Y. Jackson falls and the town of Chelmsford! Great for day use!

Yurt's so good
Jul 2020
We stayed in a yurt. It was properly cleaned, though we gave it a good wipe down just to be sure. Fewer amenities, which was to be expected. The toilets were better than expected - smelly of course but surfaces were quite clean - though I did wonder about the stagnant air in there being hazardous in COVID times. Otherwise, a pretty good park. Swimming was far away. In-park trail was kind of nice. A.Y. Jackson trail just down the road was spectacular and challenging. I personally loved the train noise - it was loud but sounded awesome ricocheting around the great outdoors. I can see why people dislike it, but to me, that's just part of camping.

Nightmare
Jul 2020
This is a park to avoid..we stayed in a cabin $145 a night because we have dogs. Hiding behind Covid they removed all amenities so the cabin was a shell. The pit toilets that were to be used were absolutely disgusting. If you are going to put in regulations about Covid then clean the place up. We visited 2 other cabins in the provincial park system and they were beautiful with all amenities. Flush, clean toilets and the cabins were clean. Windy lake cabin still had garbage from previous campers. Filthy.......get a new contractor..

My all time favorite lake to swim in
Aug 2019
We love the beach & such clean water .. so very refreshing .. fond memories of my dad telling me that the picnic tables at the park in the mid 60's were built by inmates he guarded where he worked

Great Summer Spot
Oct 2018
We used to live quite near to this lake and Provincial Park and visited very often. Beach is busy on hot summer weekends. Lake stays cool all summer because it is quite deep at over 100 ft. Fishing is good for pickerel. Obey the park rules and you will have a great time.

Okay park
Aug 2019
It is an okay park we stopped by to see what is there to do. Just took a couple of pictures and left. Not worth visiting unless you canoe or go on the water.

Great fishing
Aug 2019 • Friends
Just went for the day to use the boat launch - great little area.
Windy Lake has some good bass fishing.
The beach was lovely.
The outhouses near the boat launch could be cleaned more frequently and thoroughly.

Lovely beach - OK Camping
Aug 2019
We stayed in yurt 27. The yurt wasn't cleaned very well and the lock didn't work. Other than that it was a nice site. The campground is small and fairly quiet. The privies and comfort station weren't all that clean. They never wipe the walls. The large beach is very nice and the view is gorgeous. The beach that is within walking distance of the campground is a lot smaller but also very pleasant.
I probably wouldn't stay at this park again but it was great as a base for exploring the area. AYJackson Lookout trail is a closeby hiking trail that is AMAZING.

Windy Lake Boat Launch
Aug 2019
A bit of info on the boat launch at Windy Lake provincial park. I am a new boater and found it hard to find info on the boat launch. The boat launch is functional and provides ample parking. The water is on about 3 feet deep until you get well out of the bay. So make sure your engine is trimmed up and go slow coming out or in. Beware there is a sandbar coming out or into the bay as well. But don't let the shallow water turn you away; the lake is great but can be choppy at times. The lake is shallow along the shoreline so keep an eye on the depth. Also beware of rock outcrops and sandbars. I was able to tour the whole lake in 2.5 hrs (following the shoreline). My Legend x16 (16 foot ski boat) was able to handle the shallow water and water no problem. The dock is very wobbly so make sure to watch your footing.
